Confirm the vehicle's model, production year, engine, gearbox designation and transmission serial number before ordering. The model-year listings do not replace the gearbox-specific restrictions.
What This Product Does
Within the manual transmission, this assembly connects gear selection with the synchronising mechanism. Movement of the sleeve allows the selected gear to couple to its shaft; matching the sleeve to the correct transmission and gear position is essential.
Functions
- Provides the hub and sliding sleeve used for gear engagement.
- Works with the associated synchroniser components during selection.
- Serves the gear pair identified for each applicable gearbox.
Technical Details
- Porsche identification number: 95030402123.
- Diagram terminology: guide sleeve; synchronising hub and operating sleeve assembly.
- Specified 993 3rd/4th-gear version: internal dimension 33.66 mm.
- 993 transmission serial-number restrictions: G50.20 1 002694 >>; G50.20 2 002174 >>; G50.21 1 005073 >>; G50.21 2 003095 >>. Associated production remark: 95-95-95-95-.
- The 993 diagram also identifies a 5th/6th-gear position. Later listed 996 and 997 diagrams identify this component for 5th/6th gear.
- Recorded diagram quantity: 1 for each applicable position; this is not a statement of package contents.
Symptoms of Fault
Possible indications include resistance when selecting the relevant gears, a crunch during shifts, unreliable engagement or jumping out of gear. Inspection may reveal scoring, looseness or damaged engagement surfaces. Metallic particles in gearbox oil suggest internal deterioration but do not identify this sleeve alone as the cause.
Why Replacement Matters
Renewal is appropriate when inspection confirms damage or wear affecting engagement. During dismantling, assess adjacent gear teeth, synchroniser rings, springs, engagement pieces and bearings. Check the clutch, selector linkage and lubricant specification as well, since faults elsewhere can resemble a sleeve problem.
FAQs
Which gear pair uses this assembly?
The relevant 993 entry specifies 3rd/4th gear, while another 993 position and the listed later transmissions specify 5th/6th gear. Match the diagram position and transmission serial restrictions.
Does a difficult shift prove sleeve failure?
No. Diagnosis should distinguish internal wear from clutch, linkage and lubrication problems before parts are selected.
What should be checked during installation?
A gearbox specialist should examine the neighbouring synchroniser hardware, bearings and gears, then follow the applicable assembly procedures.
