Aluminum Intake Plenum Competition + 74mm Throttle Body Porsche 986 Boxster IPD
The 986 Boxster marked Porsche's return to a purpose built 2 seat roadster since the famed 550 Spyder. This liberating open cockpit platform was instrumental in saving Porsche from financial uncertainty and was Porsche highest volume seller from 1997 to 2003, until the Cayenne entered the Porsche line up.
The perfectly balanced mid engine 986 Boxster was designed to deliver driving excitement on sinuous back country roads while enabling the driver (and passenger) to literally take in the sights, sun and smells of the surrounding environment and listening to the intoxicating mechanical sounds of a flat 6 Boxer engine tones.
The Boxster experience can only be further heightened by adding improved performance. The IPD Plenums provide impressive the power gains throughout the entire power band making for an even more visceral Porsche driving experience.
All 986 Boxster IPD Plenum applications are designed to utilize the larger 74mm Porsche throttle body. The combination of the patented "Y" design of the IPD Plenum combined with a larger TB allow for improved air flow and intake air speed. BMC air filters are designed and produced to ensure a higher air flow than original paper filters. In F1, for example, BMC cotton filters minimize the loss of air flow pressure passing through the air filter; this way ensures the best conditions for full exploitation of maximum power. Therefore the benefits of replacing the original paper filter with BMC cotton air filter, produced using the same technology and materials as the F1 air filters, are evident.
DESIGN AND MATERIALS
Qualified engineers using advanced software and expert technicians using the latest technologies produce BMC air filters. An F1 filter must be very light, must be made of the best raw materials and must improve performance. For this reason we use only alloy mesh with epoxy coating to ensure protection from petrol fumes and from oxidization due to the humidity of the air. The filtering material is composed of a special cotton gauze soaked with low-viscosity oil to give you the best air permeability.

A cone filter has superior air flow characteristics as compared to flat panel filters. The cone filter better shapes the air as it enters through the filter for smoother straighter more formed air. Next, we have CMC machined a MAF housing to the exact tolerances of the OEM housing for precise MAF reading and NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS. In addition, the sealed air chamber sections off the cone air filter from the engine compartment so that it can only draw cool outside air for more power. Finally, the system is injected moulded from cross link polyethylene which has the lowest thermal conductivity rating of any single-layered mould-able material available on the market today. This is key in keeping intake temperatures low and increasing power.
