Designed to meet OEM standards, this replacement bonnet latch ensures reliable engagement, safe operation and correct integration with the vehicle’s safety and alarm systems.
What the Bonnet Lock Mechanism Does
The bonnet lock mechanism performs several essential
functions:
- Secures the bonnet firmly in the closed position
- Prevents accidental bonnet opening while driving
- Engages with the bonnet striker plate
- Releases via the interior bonnet release cable
- Integrates with the vehicle’s bonnet open warning system
On modern Panamera models, the bonnet latch works alongside sensors that detect whether the bonnet is fully closed, ensuring the driver receives accurate dashboard alerts.
Why Bonnet Lock Mechanisms Fail
Over time, bonnet lock mechanisms can fail due to:
- Repeated opening and closing cycles
- Corrosion from road salt and moisture
- Dirt or debris contamination
- Wear in internal latch springs and pivots
- Cable misalignment or tension issues
- Impact damage or front-end repairs
Common symptoms of a failing bonnet lock include:
- Bonnet not latching securely
- Bonnet warning light staying on
- Bonnet difficult to release
- Bonnet popping up unexpectedly
- Clicking noise without full latch engagement
Because the bonnet lock is a safety-critical component, failure can compromise both security and safe driving conditions.
When You Should Replace the Bonnet Lock
You should consider replacing the bonnet lock mechanism if:
- The bonnet does not fully latch
- The dashboard shows a bonnet open warning despite closure
- The release mechanism feels stiff or inconsistent
- The bonnet releases unexpectedly
- You are repairing front-end accident damage
- Corrosion or wear is visible on the latch assembly
Prompt replacement ensures safe bonnet operation and prevents potential hazards caused by incomplete latch engagement.
At Design911, we supply high-quality bonnet lock mechanisms engineered to match OEM performance and durability. This bonnet latch provides precise fitment and dependable operation.
Maintaining your bonnet latch system protects your vehicle, ensures secure closure and preserves factory safety standards.

Throttle Control Element.
The Genuine Porsche Throttle Control Element 971823823C is a pyrotechnic actuator used within the active bonnet pedestrian-protection system fitted to the Porsche Panamera 971.
Sold Each.
Fits Left And Right.
x2 Required Per Car.
Fits:
Diagram Ref No 8
Despite the Porsche parts-catalogue description “Throttle Control Element”, this component has no connection with the engine throttle body, accelerator pedal or engine air-intake system.
Its actual function is as an actuator for the pedestrian-protection bonnet system.
Installed as part of the front bonnet mechanism, the actuator is designed to deploy during a qualifying frontal pedestrian impact. When activated by the vehicle's pedestrian-protection control system, it rapidly raises the rear section of the bonnet.
This creates additional clearance between the bonnet panel and the harder engine components underneath, increasing the available deformation space and helping reduce the severity of injury to a pedestrian.
Because the unit contains a pyrotechnic activation mechanism, it is a safety-critical component and is intended for one-time deployment.
Once activated, or if diagnosed as faulty, the actuator must be replaced with the correct component and the pedestrian-protection system checked and reset according to Porsche workshop procedures.
What This Product Does:
The 971823823C actuator forms part of the Porsche Panamera's active bonnet pedestrian-protection system.
Its main functions are to:
- Act as a pyrotechnic bonnet-lifting actuator.
- Respond to a deployment command from the pedestrian-protection control system.
- Raise the rear section of the bonnet rapidly during a qualifying impact.
- Increase the clearance between the bonnet and rigid engine components.
- Create additional deformation space for pedestrian protection.
- Work with the vehicle's impact sensors and control electronics.
- Provide left- or right-side actuator functionality.
- Restore active bonnet operation after deployment or component failure.
Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
Possible indications include:
- Pedestrian-protection warning displayed.
- Active bonnet warning message.
- Safety-system warning light.
- Diagnostic trouble code relating to bonnet actuator.
- Open-circuit fault.
- Resistance fault within the actuator circuit.
- Communication or deployment fault.
- Rear of the bonnet sitting raised after an impact.
- Bonnet alignment becoming incorrect following deployment.
- Actuator visibly deployed.
- Physical impact damage.
- Damaged actuator wiring.
- Damaged electrical connector.
Why Replacement Matters:
Replacing a deployed or faulty Throttle Control Element / Pedestrian Protection Actuator helps restore:
- Active bonnet functionality.
- Pedestrian-protection capability.
- Correct system monitoring.
- Proper bonnet safety operation.
- Correct electrical integrity.
- Factory safety-system specification.
This component exists specifically to support pedestrian protection during certain frontal impacts.
A known faulty or deployed actuator should therefore not simply be ignored.
