Diagram Ref No 7
Also known as a front anti-roll bar drop link, stabiliser bar link or suspension connecting link, this component connects the front anti-roll bar to the suspension assembly, helping control body roll and maintain vehicle stability during cornering.
Available in left-hand and right-hand versions, these drop links are designed to restore the correct connection between the anti-roll bar and the suspension, supporting predictable handling and steering response.
The Porsche 993 features a sophisticated suspension system engineered to balance road comfort, stability and high-performance handling. The front anti-roll bar plays an important role in limiting excessive body movement when the vehicle corners.
The drop links allow forces generated by the suspension to be transferred to the anti-roll bar, enabling it to resist differences in suspension movement between the left and right sides of the vehicle.
Over time, the original drop links can deteriorate due to repeated suspension movement, road impacts, vibration, moisture and general ageing.
Worn bushes, damaged joints or excessive movement within the link assembly can contribute to knocking noises, suspension rattles, reduced cornering stability and less precise handling.
The OE MATCH Front Drop Link provides a practical replacement solution for restoring the original front anti-roll bar connection without requiring replacement of the complete suspension assembly.
Ideal for suspension maintenance, anti-roll bar repairs, chassis refurbishment and classic Porsche restoration projects, these components help preserve the handling characteristics and driving confidence expected from the Porsche 993.
What This Product Does:
The front drop link forms the mechanical connection between the front anti-roll bar and the suspension.
Its purpose is to transfer suspension movement to the anti-roll bar so that the bar can resist excessive body roll during cornering and changes in direction.
Its key functions include:
- Anti-Roll Bar Connection: Connects the front stabiliser bar to the suspension assembly.
- Body Roll Control: Enables the anti-roll bar to resist excessive vehicle body lean during cornering.
- Improved Cornering Stability: Supports more controlled suspension behaviour when turning.
- Consistent Handling Response: Helps maintain the vehicle's intended front suspension characteristics.
- Steering Precision: Contributes to predictable steering response by allowing the anti-roll bar to function correctly.
- Suspension Load Transfer: Transmits movement and forces between the suspension and anti-roll bar.
- Left-to-Right Suspension Control: Helps the anti-roll bar resist differences in suspension movement between the front wheels.
- Reduced Unwanted Movement: Maintains a secure connection between suspension components.
- Suspension Articulation: Allows the necessary movement at the connection points as the suspension travels.
- Improved Stability During Direction Changes: Supports the anti-roll bar's contribution to controlling body movement.
- Reduced Suspension Noise: Correctly functioning bushes and connections help prevent knocking caused by excessive play.
- Original Suspension Performance: Helps restore the factory-style operation of the Porsche 993 front anti-roll bar.
- OE-Style Fitment: Provides a replacement compatible with the specified front suspension configurations.
Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
Front anti-roll bar drop links are subjected to repeated movement and loading whenever the suspension operates.
Over time, wear within the link's connection points, deterioration of its bushes or damage to the link itself can reduce its effectiveness.
Common symptoms include:
1. Knocking or Clunking from the Front Suspension
A worn drop link may produce knocking or clunking noises when driving over bumps, potholes or uneven road surfaces.
Excessive movement at the link connections can cause unwanted mechanical contact.
2. Rattling Over Uneven Roads
Loose or deteriorated drop link connections may create rattling noises, particularly at lower speeds over rough surfaces.
3. Increased Body Roll During Cornering
If a drop link becomes disconnected or severely damaged, the front anti-roll bar may no longer operate as intended.
This can contribute to increased body lean when cornering.
4. Reduced Cornering Stability
A damaged drop link may compromise the anti-roll bar's contribution to the front suspension, resulting in less consistent cornering behaviour.
5. Vague or Less Precise Handling
The vehicle may feel less controlled during changes of direction if the anti-roll bar connection is excessively worn or compromised.
6. Deteriorated Link Bushes
Rubber bushes within the applicable link assembly may become cracked, hardened, compressed or split due to ageing.
7. Excessive Movement at the Link Connections
A workshop inspection may reveal movement beyond the intended flexibility of the drop link's mounting arrangement.
8. Damaged or Bent Drop Link
Severe pothole impacts, accidents or incorrect installation can deform the connecting link.
9. Worn or Damaged Mounting Points
Corrosion, damaged threads or worn mounting hardware may prevent the link from remaining securely attached.
10. Unusual Suspension Vibration
A loose connection may contribute to unwanted vibration or mechanical noise transmitted through the front suspension.
11. Corrosion Around the Link Assembly
Rust or deterioration affecting the metal components and mounting hardware may weaken the assembly or complicate removal.
12. Torn or Perished Rubber Components
Visible damage to the resilient connection components may indicate that replacement is necessary.
13. Uneven Suspension Response
A severely worn or disconnected anti-roll bar link may cause the vehicle to respond inconsistently during cornering.
14. Loose Anti-Roll Bar Connection
Movement between the link and stabiliser bar mounting may indicate worn bushes, incorrect installation or damaged fixings.
15. Damage Identified During Suspension Servicing
Worn drop links are often discovered while inspecting shock absorbers, control arms, anti-roll bar bushes or other suspension components.
Why Replacement Matters:
- Replacing worn or damaged front anti-roll bar drop links is important for maintaining the handling precision, suspension stability and roadworthiness of your Porsche 993.
- The anti-roll bar is designed to resist excessive differences in suspension movement between the left and right sides of the vehicle.
- The drop links connect the anti-roll bar to the suspension, allowing these forces to be transmitted correctly.
- When a drop link becomes worn, loose or damaged, the anti-roll bar may no longer operate as intended.

Diagram ref no. 5
The front anti-roll bar drop link transmits movement between the anti-roll bar and the suspension arms, helping the stabiliser bar resist body lean and maintain balance during cornering. A solid drop link ensures the anti-roll bar works effectively, contributing to sharp handling and improved traction.
Function
• Connects front anti-roll bar to suspension components
• Transfers roll forces to improve vehicle stability
• Reduces body lean during cornering
Worn or loose anti-roll bar drop links can contribute to clunking noises at low speeds, sloppy steering feel, increased body roll, and uneven tyre wear. These symptoms indicate reduced stabiliser bar effectiveness. Replacing them with an OE Match drop link restores firm connection, reduces unwanted movement, and helps the vehicle respond consistently during dynamic driving conditions.
Replace the front drop link if you experience any of the following:
• Clunking or knocking noises over bumps or steering inputs
• Noticeable body lean during cornering
• Loose or vague front suspension feel
• Uneven or patchy tyre wear
• During front suspension overhaul or anti-roll bar servicing
