Using premium 200-cell HJS HD Sport catalytic converters, the system is engineered to reduce exhaust restriction compared with the original catalysts while continuing to provide catalytic emissions treatment.
The catalysts are integrated into high-quality 14–16 gauge CNC mandrel-bent T304 stainless-steel pipework, providing excellent resistance to exhaust heat, corrosion and repeated thermal cycling.
Designed as a direct replacement for the factory catalytic converters, this upgrade is intended to improve exhaust flow, throttle response and exhaust character without converting the vehicle to a catalyst-delete configuration.
What This Product Does:
Catalytic converters form part of the vehicle's emissions-control and exhaust system.
Their primary purpose is to chemically convert harmful exhaust pollutants into less harmful gases before they leave the tailpipes. However, exhaust gases must also pass through the catalyst substrate, meaning its design can influence exhaust restriction.
The Fabspeed HJS Sport Catalytic Converters are designed to:
- Reduce exhaust restriction compared with more restrictive catalysts
- Improve exhaust gas flow
- Support improved throttle response
- Allow the turbochargers to evacuate exhaust gases more efficiently
- Provide catalytic emissions treatment
- Produce a stronger performance exhaust note

Fabspeed states that the 200-cell HJS EMITEC catalysts can flow up to approximately 90–93% of a straight pipe in many applications, while retaining catalytic functionality.
Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
Catalytic converters operate at extremely high temperatures and can deteriorate through age, contamination, physical damage or repeated thermal stress.
Common symptoms of a failing or restricted catalytic converter include:
- Check Engine Light relating to catalyst efficiency
- Reduced engine performance
- Sluggish throttle response
- Increased turbo lag
- Loss of power at higher engine speeds
- Excessive exhaust backpressure
- Metallic rattling from inside the catalyst
- Broken or loose catalyst substrate
- Sulphur or rotten-egg-like exhaust smell
- Unusually high exhaust temperatures
- Increased fuel consumption
- Failed emissions testing
- Irregular or restricted exhaust flow
- Excessive heat around the catalytic converter area
- Visible damage or cracking around the catalyst housing
- Black soot around leaking exhaust connections
A damaged catalyst substrate can break apart internally and partially obstruct the exhaust path, significantly increasing restriction.
Why Replacement Matters:
A deteriorated catalytic converter can affect both emissions performance and engine operation.
If the internal catalyst substrate begins to collapse or become blocked, exhaust gases cannot leave the engine as efficiently. On a turbocharged engine such as the GT2 RS, this increased post-turbo restriction can negatively affect throttle response and turbocharger performance.
Excessive restriction can also increase exhaust temperature and thermal stress within the system.
Replacing damaged or restricted catalytic converters helps restore:
