Engineered by Fabspeed Motorsport, these high-performance catalytic converters replace the restrictive factory catalytic converters with advanced German-manufactured HJS 200-cell HD sports catalysts. Their high-flow design reduces exhaust backpressure while retaining catalytic exhaust treatment functionality.
The original Porsche catalytic converters feature a 700-cell ceramic construction, whereas the Fabspeed system incorporates 200-cell trimetallic catalytic converter cores. This design allows exhaust gases to pass more freely through the system, helping improve turbocharger efficiency, engine responsiveness and acceleration.
Manufactured from premium T304L stainless steel, the system features CNC mandrel-bent pipework, precision-machined inlet flanges and hand TIG-welded construction. The HJS catalytic converter cores are protected by 321L stainless steel heat shielding, providing durability under demanding exhaust temperatures.
Fabspeed advertises performance improvements of up to 53 HP at the crankshaft and 93 lb-ft of torque, making this a performance-focused upgrade for the Porsche 992.2 Carrera platform. Actual results depend on vehicle specification and testing conditions.
In addition to improved exhaust flow, the sports catalytic converters produce a more pronounced exhaust note, allowing the character of the Porsche flat-six engine to become more noticeable during acceleration and spirited driving.
Designed as a direct bolt-on replacement, the Fabspeed Sport Catalytic Converters require no cutting or welding and can be removed to restore the original exhaust configuration if required.
Ideal for Porsche enthusiasts seeking improved engine performance, enhanced exhaust sound and premium construction, these Fabspeed Sport Catalytic Converters provide a high-quality alternative to the factory catalytic converter assemblies.
What This Product Does:
Catalytic converters are essential components of a vehicle's exhaust emissions control system. Their primary function is to reduce harmful pollutants produced during engine combustion before the exhaust gases leave the tailpipes.
As exhaust gases pass through the catalytic converter, the catalyst promotes chemical reactions that convert harmful pollutants, including carbon monoxide, unburned hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides, into less harmful substances.
The Fabspeed Sport Catalytic Converters perform this emissions-treatment function while providing a less restrictive path for exhaust gases compared with the original factory converters.
Their main functions include:
- Reducing exhaust emissions: Catalytic converter cores help convert harmful exhaust pollutants into less harmful substances.
- Improving exhaust gas flow: High-flow 200-cell HJS catalysts reduce restriction compared with the factory 700-cell catalytic converters.
- Reducing exhaust backpressure: Less restrictive pipework helps exhaust gases move more efficiently through the system.
- Supporting turbocharger efficiency: Improved exhaust flow downstream of the turbochargers can support efficient turbocharger operation.
- Increasing horsepower: Reduced exhaust restriction can contribute to additional engine power, with Fabspeed advertising gains of up to 53 HP.
- Improving torque delivery: Enhanced exhaust flow can support stronger acceleration and increased torque.
- Enhancing throttle response: More efficient exhaust gas discharge helps support responsive engine operation.
- Improving exhaust sound: Produces a deeper, more pronounced sports exhaust note compared with the factory catalytic converters.
- Maintaining catalytic exhaust treatment: Retains functioning catalytic converter cores rather than replacing them with unrestricted bypass pipes.
- Supporting high-temperature durability: Premium stainless steel construction and heat shielding help withstand demanding exhaust operating conditions.
Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
Factory catalytic converters operate under extreme conditions, including high exhaust temperatures, repeated thermal cycling, vibration and exposure to exhaust contaminants.
Although designed for long service life, catalytic converters may eventually deteriorate due to overheating, contamination, physical damage or internal substrate failure.
Common symptoms of worn or failing catalytic converters include:
- Reduced engine performance: A blocked or restricted catalytic converter may increase exhaust backpressure, reducing engine power and responsiveness.
- Sluggish acceleration: Excessive exhaust restriction can make the engine feel less responsive, particularly under heavy acceleration.
- Engine management warning light: Reduced catalytic converter efficiency may trigger the check engine light and associated diagnostic fault codes.
- Catalyst efficiency fault codes: Diagnostic codes such as P0420 or P0430 may indicate below-threshold catalytic converter efficiency, although other faults can cause these codes.
- Rattling noises: A damaged or broken internal catalytic converter substrate may produce metallic rattling sounds from the exhaust system.
- Excessive exhaust heat: A severely restricted converter can cause abnormal temperature build-up within the exhaust system.
- Unusual exhaust odours: Poor catalytic converter performance may contribute to noticeable exhaust smells or increased pollutant emissions.
- Increased fuel consumption: Severe exhaust restriction or associated engine management faults may affect fuel efficiency.
- Failed emissions inspection: A deteriorated catalytic converter may no longer provide sufficient exhaust pollutant conversion.
- Visible exhaust damage: Cracked converter housings, damaged welds or corroded connections may allow exhaust gas leakage.
- Abnormal turbocharger response: Significant exhaust restriction may interfere with efficient exhaust gas discharge from the turbochargers.
- Overheating or substrate damage: Engine misfires, incorrect fuel mixtures or excessive exhaust temperatures can damage the internal catalyst material.
Why Replacement / Upgrading Matters:
Replacing the original catalytic converters with Fabspeed Sport Catalytic Converters provides an opportunity to improve exhaust flow, increase engine performance and enhance the driving experience of the Porsche 992.2 Carrera.
While conventional replacement catalytic converters restore the original exhaust emissions system, Fabspeed's high-flow HJS design is engineered to reduce exhaust restrictions while retaining catalytic conversion functionality.
The 200-cell trimetallic catalysts provide a more open exhaust flow path than the original factory 700-cell ceramic converters, helping the turbocharged engine operate with reduced downstream restriction.
Upgrading to Fabspeed Sport Catalytic Converters offers several advantages:
- Increased engine power: Fabspeed advertises horsepower improvements of up to 53 HP at the crankshaft.
- Improved torque delivery: Manufacturer-reported gains of up to 93 lb-ft can provide stronger acceleration and improved performance.
- Reduced exhaust restriction: High-flow 200-cell catalytic converters provide a less restrictive exhaust gas pathway.
- Improved turbocharger efficiency: Reduced downstream backpressure can help turbocharged engines operate more efficiently.
- Enhanced engine responsiveness: More efficient exhaust flow can contribute to improved throttle response.
- Sportier exhaust sound: Produces a more distinctive exhaust note that complements the Porsche flat-six engine.
- Premium HJS catalytic technology: German-manufactured trimetallic catalysts offer high-performance exhaust treatment.
- Durable stainless steel construction: T304L stainless steel provides excellent corrosion resistance and long-term durability.
- High-temperature protection: 321L stainless steel heat shielding helps protect the catalytic converter cores.
- Vehicle-specific engineering: Designed for Porsche 992.2 Carrera 3.0L non-GTS applications.
- Direct bolt-on installation: Replaces the original catalytic converter assemblies without cutting or welding.
- Reversible modification: Allows the original exhaust components to be reinstalled if required.
- Manufacturer-backed performance design: Fabspeed advertises the system as optimised to avoid catalyst-related check engine lights.
- Manufacturer warranty support: Covered by Fabspeed's Lifetime Warranty, subject to the applicable terms and conditions.
For Porsche owners seeking a significant exhaust performance upgrade while retaining catalytic converters, the Fabspeed system provides a performance-focused alternative to the original exhaust components.
NOTE: In the United Kingdom, sports catalytic converters and bypass pipes do not have type approval and are not legally permitted for use on vehicles manufactured after 1st March 2001. They are not MOT compliant and cannot be used on public roads. These components are intended solely for race and track use.
For vehicles manufactured before 1st March 2001, a non-type approved sports catalytic converter may be fitted, provided it offers comparable performance to the original and the vehicle continues to meet the applicable emissions standards for its age. The vehicle must still pass an MOT test.
If you are located outside the UK, please check your local laws and regulations to ensure compliance.

DOES MY CAR HAVE "PSE"?
The Porsche Sport Exhaust – better known as PSE – was a factory option available on many late model Porsches. You can quickly and easily determine if your vehicle is equipped with PSE by taking a look at your center console. If your console has a button on it with an "exhaust tip" icon (see photo), then your vehicle is equipped with PSE, and you should select the PSE option when adding this product to your cart. If you do not see this button, the your vehicle does not have PSE and you should select the standard exhaust option when checking out.
