Engineered by Fabspeed Motorsport, these high-performance headers replace the original factory cast-steel exhaust manifolds with a lightweight, free-flowing stainless steel design. By reducing exhaust restrictions and optimising gas flow towards the turbochargers, the system helps improve engine responsiveness and performance throughout the rev range.
Manufactured from premium T321 stainless steel, the headers feature precision CAD-designed pipework, argon back-purged TIG-welded construction and investment-cast merge collectors. This combination provides excellent durability, heat resistance and efficient exhaust gas flow under demanding operating conditions.
Fabspeed reports dyno-tested performance gains of up to 22.5 HP at the crankshaft (approximately 18 wheel horsepower), along with an additional 13 lb-ft of torque. The system also provides an approximate weight saving of 6 lbs (2.7 kg) compared with the original factory exhaust manifolds.
Alongside the performance improvements, the Sport Headers enhance the natural character of the Porsche 911 Turbo engine, delivering a more pronounced exhaust note, improved high-RPM sound and increased pops and burbles during deceleration and downshifts.
Designed as a direct bolt-on upgrade, the Fabspeed Sport Headers can be installed without cutting or welding and are compatible with the original catalytic converters and exhaust system configuration.
Ideal for Porsche enthusiasts seeking increased performance, improved throttle response and enhanced driving enjoyment, these Fabspeed Sport Headers offer a high-quality upgrade for the Porsche 992 Turbo and Turbo S.
What This Product Does:
The exhaust headers, also known as exhaust manifolds, are essential components of the engine's exhaust system. Their primary function is to collect exhaust gases from the engine's cylinders and direct them towards the turbochargers and downstream exhaust components.
On the Porsche 992 Turbo and Turbo S, the exhaust manifolds play a particularly important role in managing exhaust gas flow to the twin turbochargers.
The Fabspeed Sport Headers are designed to improve this process through optimised pipework and high-flow merge collectors, reducing restrictions and allowing exhaust gases to travel more efficiently.
Their main functions include:
- Improving exhaust gas flow: CAD-optimised tubing and merge collectors help reduce restrictions compared with the original cast-steel manifolds.
- Supporting turbocharger efficiency: Smoother exhaust flow helps deliver exhaust gas energy efficiently towards the turbochargers.
- Increasing horsepower: Improved exhaust flow can contribute to greater engine power, with Fabspeed reporting gains of up to 22.5 HP at the crankshaft.
- Improving torque delivery: Reduced exhaust restriction can support improved torque and engine responsiveness.
- Enhancing throttle response: More efficient exhaust gas flow can contribute to quicker engine response during acceleration.
- Enhancing exhaust sound: Produces a more pronounced sports exhaust note and additional exhaust character during acceleration and downshifts.
- Reducing vehicle weight: Lightweight stainless steel construction saves approximately 6 lbs (2.7 kg) compared with the factory manifolds.
- Withstanding high exhaust temperatures: T321 stainless steel provides excellent resistance to thermal stress and demanding exhaust conditions.
- Maintaining exhaust system functionality: Directs exhaust gases towards the turbochargers and downstream exhaust components.
Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
The original Porsche 992 Turbo exhaust manifolds operate under extreme conditions, experiencing high exhaust temperatures, thermal expansion, vibration and constant pressure changes.
Although exhaust manifolds are designed for long service life, repeated heating and cooling cycles, corrosion, damaged mounting hardware or physical stress can eventually result in deterioration.
Common symptoms of damaged or failing exhaust headers include:
- Exhaust leaks: Cracked manifolds, damaged gaskets or loose mounting hardware may allow exhaust gases to escape before reaching the turbochargers.
- Ticking or blowing noises: Exhaust leaks near the cylinder heads can produce ticking, hissing or blowing sounds, particularly during cold starts or acceleration.
- Reduced engine performance: Significant exhaust leaks or restrictions may reduce the efficiency of exhaust gas delivery to the turbochargers.
- Sluggish acceleration: Poor exhaust flow or leakage upstream of the turbochargers can affect boost response and engine performance.
- Abnormal turbocharger response: Exhaust gas leakage before the turbochargers may contribute to slower boost development or inconsistent turbocharger operation.
- Visible cracks or damage: Repeated thermal cycling and mechanical stress may cause cracks around manifold joints, flanges or welds.
- Damaged mounting studs or fasteners: Corroded, loosened or broken hardware can compromise the connection between the exhaust manifold and cylinder head.
- Exhaust fumes or unusual odours: Leaking exhaust gases may produce noticeable fumes around the engine compartment.
- Excessive engine bay noise: A damaged exhaust manifold may cause increased mechanical-sounding noise or an unusually harsh exhaust note.
- Engine management warning light: Significant exhaust or boost-related faults may trigger diagnostic fault codes, depending on the nature of the failure.
- Heat damage around surrounding components: Escaping hot exhaust gases may expose nearby wiring, hoses and heat-sensitive components to excessive temperatures.
Why Replacement Matters:
Replacing the factory exhaust manifolds with Fabspeed Sport Headers provides an opportunity to improve the Porsche 992 Turbo's exhaust efficiency, enhance engine sound and reduce unnecessary weight.
While a standard exhaust manifold replacement restores the original system's functionality, the Fabspeed Sport Headers are engineered to provide improved exhaust gas flow and increased performance.
Their advanced stainless steel construction and optimised merge collector design help reduce restrictions within the exhaust system, supporting efficient operation of the twin-turbocharged engine.
Upgrading to Fabspeed Sport Headers offers several benefits:
- Increased engine power: Fabspeed reports horsepower gains of up to 22.5 HP at the crankshaft, depending on vehicle specification and testing conditions.
- Improved torque: Manufacturer-reported gains of 13 lb-ft provide additional performance potential.
- Enhanced throttle response: Optimised exhaust gas flow helps improve engine responsiveness during acceleration.
- Improved turbocharger performance: More efficient exhaust gas delivery can help support turbocharger operation and boost response.
- Enhanced sports exhaust sound: Produces a more aggressive exhaust character, including increased pops and burbles during downshifts.
- Reduced exhaust restriction: High-flow pipework and precision-engineered merge collectors improve exhaust gas movement.
- Lightweight construction: Saves approximately 6 lbs (2.7 kg) compared with the factory cast-steel manifolds.
- Premium stainless steel durability: T321 stainless steel provides excellent resistance to heat and repeated thermal cycling.
- Precision manufacturing: Hand TIG-welded construction and argon back-purging help maintain weld quality and durability.
- High-quality merge collectors: Investment-cast collectors provide smooth exhaust gas transitions and robust construction.
- Retained factory exhaust components: Designed to work with compatible original catalytic converters and downstream exhaust components.
- Direct bolt-on installation: Vehicle-specific fitment avoids the need for cutting or welding.
- Enhanced driving experience: Combines performance improvements with a more engaging exhaust sound.
- Long-term reliability: High-quality materials and manufacturing help withstand demanding operating temperatures.
- Manufacturer warranty support: Covered by Fabspeed's Lifetime Warranty, subject to the manufacturer's terms and conditions.
For Porsche owners seeking additional performance without replacing the complete exhaust system, Fabspeed Sport Headers provide a focused upgrade to the exhaust manifold section.
