Heat exchangers operate in an extremely demanding area of the vehicle where mounting components are continually exposed to high exhaust temperatures, repeated heating and cooling cycles, vibration, moisture and road contamination. Over time, original fasteners and mounting hardware can corrode, seize, weaken or become damaged during removal.
What This Product Does:
The mounting kit provides hardware used to correctly locate and secure compatible heat exchangers and associated exhaust components.
Depending on the specific installation, the mounting hardware helps:
- Secure the heat exchanger in its intended position
- Maintain correct component alignment
- Provide reliable fastening under exhaust-system temperatures
- Resist movement caused by engine and exhaust vibration
- Maintain secure connections between associated components
- Reduce unwanted movement and rattling
- Support correct exhaust and heating-system installation
Correct mounting is important because heat exchangers form part of the exhaust system while also playing a role in the cabin heating arrangement on applicable air-cooled Porsche models.
Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
Mounting hardware should be inspected whenever the heat exchangers or surrounding exhaust components are serviced.
Common signs of deterioration include:
- Heavy corrosion
- Rusted nuts or bolts
- Seized fasteners
- Rounded fastener heads
- Damaged threads
- Missing hardware
- Loose mounting points
- Broken studs or fasteners
- Heat exchanger movement
- Exhaust rattling or vibration
- Difficulty maintaining correct exhaust alignment
- Fasteners that cannot be tightened correctly
- Hardware damaged during previous removal
- Visible deterioration around mounting locations
Severely corroded hardware should not automatically be reused simply because it can still be removed and refitted.
Why Replacement Matters:
Replacing worn, seized, corroded or damaged heat exchanger mounting hardware helps ensure that the exhaust and heating components remain correctly secured.
A fresh mounting kit can help:
- Restore secure heat exchanger installation
- Maintain correct exhaust alignment
- Reduce unwanted movement
- Reduce rattling and vibration
- Replace rusted or seized hardware
- Restore reliable fastening
- Reduce stress on connected exhaust components
- Improve future serviceability
- Support a professional heat exchanger installation
Ignoring deteriorated mounting hardware can compromise an otherwise correctly installed replacement heat exchanger.

Exhaust bolt repair kit for Porsche DFI Engines on 911/997/991/ Boxster & Cayman (9A1) 2009-Onwards
Holy broken bolts Batman! Even the latest generation of DFI (9A1) heads on the water-cooled engines are reporting broken exhaust bolts. Tasks ranging from a simple exhaust system update through an engine removal, are consistently plagued by snapped, rusted, and broken exhaust manifold bolts. Rarely can an accurate removal of the broken bolt be performed with the engine in the car, and even after removal, the task is time consuming and if not done carefully can lead to a damaged head or faulty repair. STOMSKI RACING's answer to these problems is the SR069, a kit that easily, accurately, and flexibly allows you to drill out the broken bolts - with the engine still in the car- saving time and headaches. A CNC milled plate indexes precisely off the broken bolts and/or bolt holes. Using our uniquely designed Thumb Screws, the SR069 plate is locked in place (by threading a Thumb Screw over a broken bolt or by using a supplied bolt threaded through the SR069 Thumb Screw). With the included pilot drills and drill guides, the faulty bolt can be drilled out, producing a perfectly perpendicular and centered hole that if necessary can be chased with an included M8x1.25 tap.
Kit includes anodized aluminum fixture, drill bits, tap with extension, drill jigs/guides, Thumb Screws, and hardware in a sturdy storage case. Also includes our SR065D drill guide.
