What This Product Does:
- The front shock absorber (strut) top mount (sometimes called “strut mount,” “upper mount,” or “mount cap & bearing”) is the part that mounts the top of the front damper/strut to the vehicle’s body (strut tower). It carries spring and damper load, provides a secure connection to the chassis, and often includes a bearing to allow the strut to rotate with steering movement.
- Over time, the top mount’s rubber or elastomer may degrade, the bearing may develop play or noise, the mount plate may shift, washers/nuts may loosen, dust covers may deteriorate. This results in increased noise, worse ride/handling, and possible mis-alignment of the strut.
- This overhaul kit replaces the mount, bearing and all relevant hardware so you restore that top mount area to like new, ensuring proper load path, better durability, reduced noise and proper steering/handling characteristics.
- Clunking, knocking or creaking noises from the front strut-tower area when going over bumps or during steering input — a typical symptom of a worn mount or bearing.
- Steering feel or front suspension feel has degraded — loose, vague feel, or mis-alignment under load (cornering) can be caused by mount movement or bearing play.
- Ride comfort has worsened — a degraded mount transmits more road vibration or noise into the cabin.
- You are replacing the front shocks/struts or doing front suspension work — since the top mount is removed/loosened for such work, renewing the mount and hardware at the same time is highly recommended.
- Visual inspection may show a cracked or separated mount rubber, bearing play, rusted or worn nuts/bolts, or installer notes of mount movement when the top is pushed.
- Restores front suspension performance & precision: The top mount is key to how the front suspension loads up and behaves. A degraded mount allows unwanted movement under load, which reduces tyre contact patch consistency, reduces handling precision, and can upset steering feel.
- Eliminates noise & improves ride comfort: Many mount failures manifest as clunks, squeaks, or increased vibration. The full kit replacement addresses the entire assembly, not just one failing piece.
- Prevents more serious damage: If the mount is loose or the bearing is worn, the load path through the strut stack may shift, leading to premature damper shaft wear or strut tower load concentrations.
- Cost-effective timing: Since the top mount requires strut removal or top tower access, doing the full kit while you have that access is efficient and avoids re-doing labour.
