What This Product Does:
- The top mount of the front shock/strut is the crucial structural point where the strut’s top end is fixed to the vehicle’s body/strut tower. It supports the spring/damper load, isolates vibration, allows steering rotation (via bearing or mount plate) and maintains suspension geometry.
- Over time, the top mount hardware—cap, washers, plates, mount bearing or rubber isolator—can degrade: rubber may soften or crack, hardware may corrode or loosen, the mount plate may shift under load. These failures can lead to creaks, clunks, poor ride response and degraded handling.
- The overhaul kit replaces all of these components in one go, ensuring the top mount assembly is returned to its proper condition — secure, correctly aligned, free of play, and with correct installed preload.
When You Should Consider Replacement:
- Knocking or clunking noises from the front strut top area—particularly when going over bumps or when steering the wheel. A failing top mount is a common source of such noises.
- Steering feels less precise, or there is increased play or vague feedback in the front end during cornering, possibly due to mount movement under load.
- Ride quality has degraded, or you notice increased vibration, harsher ride or poorer damping response—indicating that the mount is no longer effectively isolating or securing the strut.
- You are replacing the front shocks/struts: since the top mount must be accessed when the strut is removed, replacing the mount kit at the same time is efficient and prevents needing to revisit later.
- Visual inspection or age/mileage factor: If you notice any of the following—cracked mount rubber, corroded top mount nut/cap, missing or damaged mount hardware—it’s wise to replace. Also, if your vehicle has high mileage or has been driven hard, the mount hardware is high on the list of wear items.
- Restores suspension performance & precision: On a high-performance car like a Porsche, the top mount is part of the load path and geometry of the front suspension. If it is worn, the strut may move slightly under load, compromising alignment, tyre contact patch and handling.
- Eliminates noise & improves ride comfort: Many owners report knocking, creaks or harshness that trace back to worn mount caps, washers or mount plates. A fresh kit removes this weak link.
- Prevents escalation of wear or damage: A failing mount can allow movement that stresses the strut shaft, spring seat, mount plate or body mount—leading to more expensive damage. Replacing the mount kit prevents this chain reaction.
- Cost-effective maintenance timing: Since you already remove or support the strut to access the top mount, replacing the mount kit now adds little extra labour cost and avoids needing to revisit the area.
