What This Product Does:
- The strut mount (top mount) is the structural connection point between the top of the front shock/strut assembly and the car’s body (strut tower). It absorbs loads from the suspension (spring & damper) and allows the strut to pivot (for steering) via the bearing.
- The contact bearing or pivot bearing allows the front strut to rotate as the wheels are steered while maintaining smooth operation and minimal noise/fretting.
- Over time, the mount’s rubber cushion, metal plates or bearing can degrade, leading to noise, poor alignment, or less effective suspension function. The kit restores correct mount geometry, alignment, reduces unwanted movement, and improves ride/handling feel.
Symptoms & Signs You Need Replacement:
- Clunking or knocking noise from the top of the front strut tower when going over bumps or during braking/acceleration.
- Squeaking or groaning noise when turning the steering wheel – could indicate the bearing is worn.
- Excessive vibration or harshness coming through the body when driving, indicating the mount rubber may be fatigued.
- Uneven tyre wear or vague steering feel – if the strut mount is worn, the strut top may move under load, affecting geometry.
- During shock/strut replacement – because the mount is accessed when replacing the front shocks, it is wise to replace the mount/bearing at the same time to avoid future failure.
- Safety & handling: The strut mount plays a key role in the front suspension’s operation. A worn mount can compromise handling precision, ride comfort and may allow excessive movement under load.
- Noise, vibration & harshness: A deteriorated mount/bearing leads to unwanted noise and vibrations that degrade driving experience.
- Longevity of other components: If the mount is worn, the bearing, strut rod, or strut top plate may be overloaded, leading to premature failure of those parts. Replacing now can prevent larger issues.
- Cost-effective during service: Because the mount/bearing sits atop the strut, it typically requires partial suspension disassembly to reach. Replacing during suspension service is more economical than later doing mounts alone.
