The radiator fan is a critical part of a water-cooled engine's thermal management system. While airflow through the radiator naturally increases when the vehicle is moving, additional forced airflow is required when driving slowly, sitting in traffic or operating under conditions where natural airflow is insufficient. The electric fan draws or pushes air through the radiator as required, allowing heat to be transferred from the engine coolant to the surrounding air.
A worn or failed radiator fan can significantly reduce cooling efficiency, particularly at low road speeds. Problems can develop through motor wear, damaged fan blades, worn bearings, electrical faults or physical damage to the assembly.
