Information
Synchro anchor block 2nd gear
The Porsche Genuine OE Synchro Anchor Block is a precision-machined internal transmission component used within the second gear synchroniser assembly of the classic Porsche 915 manual gearbox. Often referred to as a synchro anchor block or thrust block, this part plays a key role in maintaining the correct positioning and operation of synchroniser components inside the gearbox.
Fits:
Porsche 911 1974-86 (915 Gearbox)
Diagram ref no 38
The anchor block supports and locates elements of the 2nd gear synchroniser mechanism, helping ensure proper engagement between gears during shifting.
It works alongside the synchroniser ring and brake band to stabilise gear alignment and control friction during gear changes, allowing smooth and precise shifting into second gear.
Functions & Technical Role
• Synchro support: Positions and stabilises the 2nd gear synchroniser components
• Gear alignment: Maintains correct spacing of internal gearbox parts
• Shift quality: Helps ensure smooth engagement into second gear
• Load distribution: Supports internal forces during gear changes
• OEM precision: Manufactured to exact Porsche tolerances for gearbox rebuild accuracy
Fitment / Position on car
• Fitting position: Manual transmission (gearbox internals)
• Location: Within the 2nd gear synchroniser assembly of the 915 gearbox
• System: Gear cluster / synchroniser mechanism
Cross Reference / Superseded Numbers: 91530234701, 93030232200, 93030232301
Inside a manual transmission, components operate under high load, friction, and precision tolerances. A worn or damaged anchor block can lead to:
• Difficult or rough shifting into 2nd gear
• Gear crunching or synchro wear
• Misalignment of synchroniser components
• Reduced gearbox performance
Replacing with a genuine Porsche OE part ensures proper internal geometry, restoring smooth shifting and protecting the gearbox during rebuilds.
