Information
Parking Brake cable, without handle, for RHD (Right Hand Drive) cars.
Cable length: 402 mm
Fits:
RHD (Right Hand Drive) cars
Porsche 356 B 1950 - 1965
Diagram ref no 2
• Position on Vehicle: Installed in the rear braking system; the cable runs from the hand brake lever inside the vehicle to the rear brake assembly or equaliser.
• Function: Transfers the mechanical pull from the handbrake lever to the rear brakes, enabling the vehicle to be held securely when parked. Ensures full mobility of the handbrake mechanism and correct tension when released.
• Material & Construction: Durable steel cable core with corrosion-resistant outer sleeve, correct Porsche-style fittings at each end, and built to OE specifications for length, flexibility and durability.
• Applications: Ideal when the original cable shows signs of fraying, corrosion, excessive stretch, or when replacing the cable as part of a handbrake system overhaul on a classic Porsche 356.
The parking brake cable is a critical mechanical element of the vehicle’s handbrake system. If the cable is worn, overly stretched, corroded or incorrectly fitted, common issues include:
• Loss of parking brake holding force or slipping on incline
• Excess travel in the handbrake lever before engagement
• Uneven brake wear or incomplete release causing dragging
• Safety risk during parking or in emergency braking situations
Replacing the cable ensures proper handbrake operation, restores confident stopping/holding ability and protects against unwanted mechanical failure.
When to replace:
• The lever engages only after several clicks or feels weak
• The original cable shows visible external damage (rust, fray, broken outer sleeve)
• Rear brake shoes/pads are replaced and the handbrake linkage is exposed
• Vehicle is undergoing restoration and original cables are aged or suspect
