Information
Piston Set 80mm, 22mm Pin.
Restore dependable engine performance or complete a high-quality engine rebuild with this OE Match 80mm Piston Set with 22mm Pin, reference 0081180P. Designed for compatible engine applications requiring an 80mm piston diameter and 22mm wrist/gudgeon pin, this piston set provides a replacement solution for worn or damaged original pistons and is suitable for engine rebuilding, restoration, and repair projects.
Fits: Porsche 356 Pre A 1500cc
It is also commonly used as a big bore supplement for the early 36 Horse VW Engine, but requires a lot of machine work.
Engine size: 1500cc
Stroke: 74mm
Pistons: Hypereutectic
Kit includes: 4 Pistons, A set of Piston Rings, and 4 wrist pins and clips.
Pistons are fundamental internal engine components, travelling within the cylinders and containing the pressure created during combustion. This combustion force is transferred through the 22mm piston pins and connecting rods to the crankshaft, ultimately producing the rotational power used to drive the vehicle. Accurate piston dimensions, correct running clearances, and effective piston ring sealing are essential for maintaining compression, controlling oil consumption, and achieving reliable engine performance.

What This Product Does:
- Forms a critical part of the engine's combustion chambers.
- Contains combustion pressure within each cylinder.
- Transfers combustion force to the connecting rods and crankshaft.
- Features an 80mm piston specification for compatible cylinders.
- Uses a 22mm wrist/gudgeon pin specification for compatible connecting rods.
- Helps maintain effective cylinder compression.
- Supports efficient combustion and consistent engine performance.
- Helps control oil consumption when correctly installed with suitable piston rings.
- Replaces worn, damaged, or unsuitable existing pistons.
- Provides an OE-style solution for compatible engine rebuilds.
Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
- Low or uneven cylinder compression.
- Excessive engine oil consumption.
- Blue smoke from the exhaust.
- Reduced engine power or poor acceleration.
- Excessive crankcase pressure or blow-by.
- Piston slap, knocking, or abnormal internal engine noise.
- Scoring or excessive wear on the piston skirts.
- Cracked, burnt, or otherwise damaged piston crowns.
- Worn, cracked, or broken piston ring lands.
- Excessive wear around the piston pin bore.
- Cylinder wall scoring or abnormal bore wear.
- Poor compression or leak-down test results.
Why Replacement Matters:
- Pistons are among the most highly loaded components inside an engine and play a fundamental role in compression, combustion, and power production. Excessive piston skirt wear, damaged ring lands, worn pin bores, cracked crowns, or incorrect running clearances can compromise cylinder sealing and piston stability.
- Worn or damaged pistons may lead to reduced compression, increased oil consumption, excessive blow-by, poor engine performance, abnormal internal noise, and accelerated wear of the cylinders and other engine components. Severe piston damage can ultimately lead to extensive internal engine failure.
- Correct piston and pin compatibility is also essential during an engine rebuild. The 80mm piston diameter and 22mm piston pin must be correctly matched to the cylinders, connecting rods, and overall engine specification. Incorrect dimensions or assembly clearances can result in excessive wear, piston seizure, cylinder damage, or other serious mechanical problems.
- Replacing worn or damaged components with this OE Match Piston Set 80mm, 22mm Pin 0081180P helps restore cylinder sealing, compression, and dependable engine operation when correctly installed as part of a properly measured and assembled engine rebuild.
