Cross Over Pipe Exhaust Sealing Ring
Restore proper exhaust sealing and eliminate unwanted
exhaust leaks with Cross Over Pipe Exhaust Sealing Ring, designed
for Porsche 911 models produced between 1975 and 1989. This sealing ring is
used within the cross over pipe section of the exhaust system, creating a
gas-tight seal between connected exhaust components.
Fits:
- Porsche 911 1974-1977 2.7L / 1976-77 3.0 Carrera
- Porsche 911 1978-1983 3.0L / SC

The cross over pipe is a critical part of the air-cooled Porsche exhaust system, helping balance exhaust gas flow and directing gases efficiently through the exhaust assembly. The sealing ring ensures that exhaust gases remain contained within the system, preventing leaks that can reduce performance, increase noise and affect overall driving enjoyment.
Over time, exhaust sealing rings are subjected to extreme temperatures, vibration, pressure fluctuations and corrosion. As the seal ages, it can become compressed, brittle or damaged, leading to exhaust leaks and reduced system efficiency.
Replacing worn sealing rings whenever exhaust components are removed is essential for maintaining proper exhaust system performance and reliability.
What Does a Cross Over Pipe Exhaust Sealing Ring Do?
The exhaust sealing ring sits between mating exhaust components and creates a heat-resistant seal that prevents exhaust gases from escaping.
A properly functioning sealing ring helps:
- Maintain a leak-free exhaust system
- Ensure correct exhaust gas flow
- Reduce exhaust noise
- Support engine efficiency
- Prevent exhaust fumes escaping at joints
- Maintain correct exhaust back pressure
- Protect surrounding components from hot gas leakage
Without an effective seal, exhaust gases can escape before reaching the silencer system.
Symptoms of Wear or Failure
Exhaust sealing rings naturally deteriorate due to constant exposure to heat and vibration.
Common signs of a failing sealing ring include:
- Exhaust blowing noises
- Ticking sounds from the exhaust system
- Visible soot deposits around joints
- Increased exhaust noise
- Exhaust fumes around the vehicle
- Reduced engine efficiency
- Poor sealing after exhaust disassembly
- Signs of compression or deterioration during inspection
Even a small leak can become progressively worse if the sealing ring is not replaced.
Why Replacement Matters
Replacing a worn exhaust sealing ring helps maintain exhaust system integrity and prevents secondary damage to other exhaust components.
Benefits include:
- Restores leak-free exhaust operation
- Improves exhaust system efficiency
- Reduces unwanted exhaust noise
- Helps maintain correct exhaust flow
- Protects surrounding exhaust components
- Improves repair reliability
- Supports long-term durability
- Enhances restoration quality
For classic air-cooled Porsche 911 models, maintaining correct exhaust sealing is essential for performance, reliability and driving enjoyment.
