Gearshift sleeve, 3rd - 4th Gear
This OE Match gearshift sleeve is a replacement transmission synchroniser sleeve for 3rd and 4th gear on Porsche 911 models from 1966 to 1977. It is designed to match the original-style fit and function, helping restore smooth and accurate gear engagement.
Sold individually
Fits:
Porsche 911 1966-71 901 gearbox
Porsche 911 1972-77 915 gearbox
for Narrow Guide Sleeve
Diagram ref no 13
The gearshift sleeve forms part of the gearbox synchroniser assembly. During gear changes, it moves to engage the selected gear, working with the synchro hub, synchro rings, and dog teeth to help the gearbox shift cleanly between 3rd and 4th gear.
Functions
• Replaces the 3rd–4th gear synchroniser / gearshift sleeve
• Helps engage 3rd and 4th gears correctly
• Supports smooth and accurate gear changes
• Works with the synchro hub, synchro rings, and dog teeth
• Helps reduce gear selection issues when replacing worn components
• Suitable for gearbox rebuilds and transmission repair
• OE Match replacement for classic Porsche gearbox service.
Why Replace This Part?
Gearshift sleeves can wear due to repeated gear changes, high mileage, poor lubrication, worn synchro components, or gearbox abuse. A worn or damaged sleeve may cause difficult gear selection, crunching, baulking, jumping out of gear, or poor shift feel. Replacing the sleeve during gearbox overhaul helps restore correct synchroniser operation and reliable gear engagement.
When to Replace
• This Part 3rd or 4th gear is difficult to select
• Gear changes feel notchy, rough, or inconsistent
• Crunching or baulking occurs during 3rd–4th gear shifts
• The gearbox jumps out of gear
• The sleeve teeth are worn, chipped, rounded, or damaged
• The synchro rings, hubs, or dog teeth are being replaced
• The gearbox is being rebuilt or inspected.
Where it fits on the car
This gearshift sleeve fits inside the gearbox synchroniser assembly for 3rd and 4th gear. It is part of the internal transmission gear selection system and should be installed according to the factory gearbox layout.
