Koni Special Active front shock absorbers & top mounts kit – Porsche 986 Boxster by Koni is for Porsche Boxster 986 models from 1997–2004, including 2.5L, 2.7L and Boxster S 3.2L variants. This front kit combines Special Active dampers with top mounts for a matched suspension refresh on the front axle.
What This Product Does Front shock absorbers control vertical wheel and suspension movement, help maintain tyre contact and manage body movement during braking, cornering and acceleration. Koni Special Active dampers use Frequency Selective Damping technology to vary damping response according to road and suspension movement, while the included top mounts support correct installation at the strut-to-body mounting point.
Functions
- Controls front suspension travel and wheel movement.
- Helps manage nose dive, pitch and body roll.
- Supports consistent front axle behaviour when fitted as a pair.
- Replaces ageing front dampers and associated top mounts together.
- Helps address wear-related knocking where top mounts are part of the cause.
Symptoms of Fault
- Leaking oil on the damper body.
- Excessive bouncing after bumps.
- Nose dive under braking.
- Knocking or creaking over uneven roads.
- Vague steering response or tramlining.
- Uneven tyre wear or cupping.
- Poor body control or unsettled ride feel.
- Harshness caused by worn mounts, bushes or incorrect spring pairing.
Why Replacement Matters
- Front dampers are commonly replaced to restore ride control, braking stability and handling feel when original parts are worn.
- Replacing top mounts at the same time can reduce repeat labour and address related suspension noises.
- Koni Special Active dampers are often chosen for road cars where controlled damping and everyday compliance are both required.
- Suspension issues can overlap across dampers, mounts, arms, bushes and alignment, so inspect the wider front suspension before fitting.
- After suspension work, have the wheel alignment checked to support consistent handling and tyre wear.

- Are these dampers adjustable? Some Koni products are adjustable; confirm the exact specification for this kit and follow the supplied fitting instructions.
- What should be checked after fitting? Inspect related bushes and arms, then have the alignment checked once the suspension work is complete.
