- In an engine like the Porsche performance flat-six, accurate timing is critical. The tensioner ensures the chain remains properly seated against the guides/rails and avoids noise, mis-timing, or eventual failure.
- Because modern Porsche engines often use duplex chains, intermediate shafts and high rev operation, a precise tensioner is essential for durability, reliability and performance.
When You Should Consider Replacement:
- You hear rattling, clattering or ticking noises from the timing‐cover area on startup or idle — a classic symptom of a loose timing chain.
