To solve this issue, the original component was 3D scanned and carefully reproduced. After refinement and minor design improvements, the result is a high-quality reproduction that fits exceptionally well, including vehicles with leather dashboard trims.
What the Centre Console Trim Does
The centre console trim in the early Porsche 928 serves both
functional and aesthetic purposes. It:
- Houses and frames the three central gauges
- Surrounds the radio aperture
- Integrates visually with the dashboard design
- Provides structural support for console-mounted components
- Maintains the clean and distinctive early 928 interior layout
In early 928 models, the three gauge configuration is a defining feature of the interior. Maintaining the correct console trim preserves originality and classic styling.
Why Centre Console Trims Fail on Early 928 Models
Due to age and material fatigue, original centre console
trims often suffer from:
- Cracking due to heat exposure
- Warping from prolonged sun damage
- Brittleness from ageing plastics
- Breakage around mounting points
- Damage from radio installations
- Deformation during removal or restoration work
Because Porsche discontinued this part, used originals are rare and often in poor condition.
This reproduction trim solves a long-standing restoration challenge for early 928 owners.
Improved Reproduction with Practical Benefits
This reproduction console trim has been developed using
modern manufacturing techniques:
- 3D scanned from an original part
- Modified for improved fitment
- Manufactured from strong, durable material
- Compatible with leather dashboard interiors
- Can be modified to suit later size radios if required
The material is robust enough to allow careful trimming of the radio aperture to accommodate upgraded head units, making it suitable for both restoration and subtle modernisation projects.
When You Should Replace the Centre Console Trim
You should consider replacing the centre console trim if:
- The original part is cracked or warped
- Mounting tabs are broken
- The console does not sit flush with the dashboard
- The radio aperture has been damaged
- You are restoring a 1978–1979 Porsche 928
- You are upgrading interior components while maintaining factory styling
Replacing this trim restores the clean, structured appearance of the early 928 interior and significantly improves overall presentation.
