- Porsche Cayman 2.7L 981 2013-16
Information
Driveshaft, Rear.
Rear drive shaft / CV axle - connects the rear differential to the rear wheel hub and supports torque delivery to the driven wheels.
Fits:
For cars with PDK transmission (dual clutch)
Porsche 981 Boxster 2.7L 2012 - 2016
Porsche 981C Cayman 2.7L 2013 - 2016
Diagram ref no 1
The rear drive shaft assembly is a critical drivetrain component that transfers torque from the rear differential to the rear wheel hub. It allows rotational power from the engine and transmission to drive the vehicle, all while accommodating suspension travel and wheel articulation.
Key functions include:
• Delivering engine torque to the wheels
• Supporting smooth power delivery under acceleration
• Accommodating suspension movement and road irregularities
• Helping maintain stability and traction under normal and dynamic driving conditions.
The constant velocity (CV) joints on each end allow for consistent rotation with minimal friction at varying angles, essential for modern independent suspension systems.
Replace the drive shaft if you notice:
• A clicking or popping noise when turning
• Shuddering or vibration under acceleration
• CV boot damage or grease leakage
• Excessive play in the axle or joint
• During differential, suspension, or major drivetrain service
