The Porsche Genuine OE Rear Engine Lid Damper (Part No. 99751255191) is an original factory gas-filled support strut / gas pressure damper designed for the rear engine lid assembly on high-performance Porsche 997 GT models.
1 required per vehicle
Fits:
Porsche 997.1 GT3 RS 2007 - 2013 (PR:004)
Porsche 997.2 GT2 2010 - 2013
Diagram ref no 4
The rear engine lid damper assists with lifting and supporting the engine cover while keeping it securely open during servicing or inspection.
The gas-filled design counterbalances the weight of the GT rear lid and spoiler assembly, ensuring controlled opening and preventing the lid from dropping unexpectedly. This is especially important on GT and RS models fitted with larger aerodynamic rear wings.
Functions & Technical Role
• Engine lid support: Assists lifting and holding the rear lid open
• Gas pressure operation: Provides smooth and controlled movement
• GT spoiler support: Designed for heavier GT and RS rear deck lids
• Service accessibility: Improves safe access to the engine compartment
• OEM precision: Manufactured to Porsche factory specifications for exact fitment and durability
Fitment / Position on Car
• Fitting position: Rear
• Location: Rear engine lid / rear deck lid assembly
• System: Rear lid lifting and support mechanism
• Typically fitted: Between the chassis mounting point and engine lid hinge assembly
The rear engine lid damper supports the heavy GT rear spoiler assembly and prevents sudden closing of the engine lid. A weak or failed damper can make the lid difficult to open and unsafe to hold in position.
When to Replace:
• Rear lid no longer stays open
• Weak or uneven lifting force
• Oil leakage from the gas strut
• Difficulty opening the engine cover
• During rear lid or spoiler restoration work

Rear tailgate damper set of 2 for Porsche Cayman 981 and 718 (982), suitable for selected Cayman 987C/981C (2005–2016) and 718C (982C) 2017-on models.
What This Product Does These rear lid gas struts support the Cayman tailgate, controlling its lifting and closing motion so the lid can be opened and held in position during everyday use or access to the luggage area.
Functions
- Support the rear tailgate when open
- Control the lifting and closing speed of the lid
- Help prevent the lid from dropping unexpectedly
- Assist with smooth, consistent tailgate operation
Symptoms of Fault
- Rear lid feels heavy or difficult to lift
- Tailgate drops or will not stay fully open
- Visible oil mist or leakage on the damper shaft
- Creaking or knocking noises when opening or closing the lid
Why Replacement Matters
Worn rear lid dampers can allow the Cayman tailgate to drop or close unpredictably and may make the lid awkward to raise. Replacing tired dampers restores controlled movement of the rear lid, supports routine access to the luggage area, and helps maintain correct operation of the tailgate assembly.
