What This Product Does:
- The timing chain is a Porsche component designed for certain Porsche models (for example, the 718 Boxster, 718 Cayman, 718 Spyder, and possibly newer ones) to control the timing between the crankshaft and the camshaft(s).
- Its role is to synchronise the valves opening/closing with piston movement — ensuring engine timing stays accurate under load.
- As the chain rotates, it transmits mechanical power from the crankshaft to camshaft(s) so that the proper valve events happen at the correct times.
Symptoms Of Failure:
- Rattling noise or audible ticking/knocking from the engine’s timing cover area — often when starting cold or idling.
- Check Engine Light (CEL) setting, often related to cam/crank correlation or timing issues.
- Poor engine performance — misfires, rough idle, reduced power or hesitation due to the timing going out of spec.
- In worst-case: the engine may fail to start if the chain has jumped teeth or broken entirely.
- High mileage wear: If the car has many km/miles, chain stretch becomes more likely.
- A properly functioning timing chain is critical for engine health. If timing is off, valves and pistons can collide (in interference engines), causing serious and expensive damage.
- Replacing the chain before a major failure prevents catastrophic outcomes and engine downtime.
- Over time, even if not broken, wear will degrade performance and reliability — so replacing a worn chain restores optimal operation.
- Since this is an OEM Porsche part, it ensures fitment, durability and specification compliance for the vehicle it’s designed for, giving confidence in quality.
- Neglecting a bad chain can lead to much higher repair costs, such as cylinder head work or complete engine replacement.

To help remove all the balance shaft belt and ancillary
products on 944/968 which is only way to make the engine run smoother (After
you’ve removed that stuff these bungs to plug up the holes on the engine, so it
does leak from where the shafts used to be).
So, engine will still run without all that balance shaft
belt and ancillary, maybe a bit rougher but will save a bit of engine power not
having to drive all that stuff and engine weight. (Crankshaft/Camshaft timing
is on a separate timing belt on 944/968)
