What This Product Does
This strut forms part of the electric tailgate mechanism, assisting rear hatch movement and supporting the lid during operation. It is a powered-system component rather than a conventional, unpowered lid support.
Functions
- Assists operation of the electrically operated rear hatch.
- Supports the rear lid as it moves.
- Replaces a worn or damaged electronic damper within the tailgate assembly.
Technical Details
- Part reference: 958827851A; described in the supplied diagram as a powerlift throttle control element for the electric rear lid.
- Equipment identification: I4E7; diagram application PR:4E7"CN.".
- Diagram instruction: use in pairs. Required vehicle quantity: 2; this does not specify the quantity supplied.
- Production restriction: D >> - MJ 2014, with the following upper chassis limits.
Symptoms of Fault
Reduced lid support, unexpected downward movement, difficulty raising the hatch, or creaks and knocks during operation can warrant inspection. These symptoms alone do not confirm that the electronic strut requires replacement.
Why Replacement Matters
A deteriorated damper can affect rear hatch support and movement. Replacement addresses a confirmed component fault, while checking the associated mounting points and electrical connections helps avoid overlooking another cause. Match the original reference and chassis details before fitting.
OE Reference
Current reference: 958827851A.
Earlier OE references: 95851285109, 95851285106, 95851285105, 95851285104.

The supplied parts diagram specifies use in pairs and records two units per vehicle.
Does this fit every 958 Cayenne?
No. this 2011–2014 application and the listed chassis limits rather than relying on the model designation alone.

What This Product Does
This electrically operated damper forms part of the powered rear lid mechanism, assisting opening and closing movement during access to the luggage compartment.
Functions
- Assists powered rear lid movement.
- Helps control opening and closing travel.
Technical Details
- Component: electric rear boot lid damper.
- Mounting position: left or right.
- Sold as each. 2 per car.
- Application exclusion: not for Coupe.
- Supplied reference numbers: 9Y0827851B and 9Y0827851A.
Symptoms of Fault
Reduced lid support, downward movement while partially raised, or creaking and knocking during operation warrant inspection. These symptoms do not establish that the damper alone is responsible; check the mechanism and electrical connections before replacement.
Why Replacement Matters
Renewing a confirmed faulty unit helps restore the intended rear lid operation. Inspect the opposite damper and mounting points at the same time, rather than assuming that replacing one component will resolve every operating fault.
FAQs
Must both units be renewed together?
Two are fitted per vehicle. Assess both units and follow the applicable repair procedure when deciding whether one or both need replacement.
Are mounting clips or brackets included?
The supplied information does not specify additional hardware. Confirm the required fittings before installation.
Is adjustment needed after installation?
Follow the vehicle-specific repair procedure for installation and any required setup.
