The Cayenne's rear window can be opened independently from the main rear tailgate. This seal surrounds that opening and forms the weather-resistant interface between the rear glass assembly and the tailgate structure when the window is closed.
Its purpose is to help prevent rainwater, dust, road contamination and wind from entering the luggage compartment while also cushioning the rear glass and helping it sit securely against the tailgate.
Over time, the original rubber seal can harden, flatten, crack or shrink due to age, UV exposure, heat, cold and repeated compression every time the rear window is closed.
Once the seal loses its flexibility, it may no longer maintain consistent contact around the glass. This can result in water ingress, wind noise, rattling or visible gaps around the rear window.
