Diagram ref no 5
This part is commonly used in the sunroof drive / roof lift system on select Porsche 924, 944 and 968 models. It is suitable for left or right side installation, and two gears may be required depending on the repair
The sunroof cable gear works within the sunroof drive system to help move the sunroof cables as the motor and mechanism operate. It supports smooth opening, closing, lifting, and locking movement of the sunroof panel by helping transfer drive through the cable mechanism.
Functions
• Replaces the sunroof cable gear
• Helps drive the sunroof cable mechanism
• Supports smooth sunroof opening and closing
• Helps maintain correct movement of the sunroof panel
• Replaces worn, stripped, cracked, or damaged original gears
• Supports repair of slipping, jammed, or uneven sunroof operation
• OE Match replacement for sunroof mechanism repair and restoration.
Why Replace This Part?
Sunroof cable gears can wear, strip, crack, or become damaged over time due to age, repeated sunroof use, cable resistance, dirt, lack of lubrication, or mechanical misalignment. A worn gear may cause the sunroof to slip, jam, move unevenly, fail to lift, fail to close fully, or make clicking and grinding noises. Replacing the gear helps restore reliable sunroof mechanism function.
When to Replace This Part
• The sunroof does not open or close correctly
• The sunroof moves unevenly or only on one side
• Clicking, grinding, or slipping noises are heard from the mechanism
• The gear teeth are worn, stripped, cracked, or damaged
• The sunroof cables are being replaced or serviced
• The sunroof panel does not lift, lock, or align correctly
• The vehicle is undergoing Porsche 924S, 944, or 968 sunroof restoration.
Where it fits on the car
This gear fits within the sunroof cable drive mechanism on Porsche 924S, 944, and 968 models. It forms part of the electric sunroof operating system and works with the sunroof cables, motor, and guide mechanism.
