Using engine oil pressure, it automatically compensates for valve clearance, helping maintain smooth, quiet and efficient engine operation without regular manual tappet adjustment.
Confirm compatibility with the engine specification and original part number before ordering.
What Does It Do?
The hydraulic lifter automatically maintains the correct valve clearance using engine oil pressure.
This helps the camshaft operate the valves accurately while reducing mechanical noise and unnecessary valve train wear.
Why Does It Fail?
Common causes include:
- Contaminated or ageing engine oil
- Blocked internal oil passages
- Insufficient oil pressure
- Internal wear or sticking mechanisms
- High mileage and prolonged engine use
When Should It Be Replaced?
Replace if the lifter is worn, seized, damaged or no longer maintains correct valve clearance.
Common symptoms include persistent tappet ticking, excessive valve train noise and uneven engine operation.
Checks & Diagnosis
Check engine oil level, condition and pressure before replacing the lifter.
Inspect the camshaft and associated valve train components for wear. Confirm that the noise originates from a faulty lifter rather than another engine component.
Follow Porsche workshop procedures when installing replacement tappets.
Key Features
- OE Match replacement hydraulic lifter
- Suitable for selected Porsche 924S, 928 and 944 engines
- Automatically compensates for valve clearance
- Helps reduce valve train noise
- Supports accurate valve operation
- Suitable for engine servicing and rebuilding
Porsche 924S / 928 / 944 Hydraulic Lifters & Engine Valve Train Parts
Hydraulic lifters are important components of the Porsche engine valve train, helping maintain correct valve clearance and consistent camshaft operation.
Replacing worn or faulty tappets can help restore quieter engine operation and reduce unnecessary wear to associated components.

LIQUI MOLY Hydraulic Lifter Additive – 300ml
LIQUI MOLY Hydraulic Lifter Additive is an engine oil treatment designed to reduce noisy hydraulic tappets and improve the operation of oil-fed valve train components.
Its cleaning formula helps remove deposits from oil passages and valve bores, supporting smoother engine operation and improving the function of oil-pressure-operated timing chain tensioners.
What Does It Do?
The additive cleans oil passages and valve bores, helping hydraulic lifters operate correctly. It may also reduce noise from oil-pressure-operated timing chain tensioners.
Why Do Hydraulic Lifters Become Noisy?
Common causes include:
- Deposits restricting oil passages
- Contaminated or ageing engine oil
- Poor lubrication during cold starts
- Low engine oil pressure
- Internal lifter wear
When Should It Be Used?
Use when hydraulic tappet noise may be caused by deposits or restricted oil flow.
It can be added during routine servicing. Persistent mechanical noise requires diagnosis, as additives cannot repair worn or damaged components.
Application & Dosage
- Add directly to the engine oil.
- One 300ml container treats up to 6 litres of oil.
- Adjust the dosage proportionally for larger oil capacities.
- Can be added at any time.
- Warm the engine after adding.
- LIQUI MOLY recommends use after each oil change for a lasting effect.
Key Features
- Helps reduce hydraulic tappet noise
- Cleans oil passages and valve bores
- Improves engine oil lubrication properties
- Supports oil-pressure-operated timing chain tensioners
- Suitable for compatible petrol and diesel engines
- Tested for turbochargers and catalytic converters
- Suitable for engines with diesel particulate filters
- Compatible with commercially available engine oils
- 300ml container
