Information
Secondary air pump.
OE Match secondary air injection (AIR) pump, also commonly called an A.I.R. pump or emissions air pump. It is a key element of the secondary air injection system - an emissions-control component that helps reduce harmful emissions during cold engine starts by injecting fresh air into the exhaust stream to promote more complete combustion of unburnt fuel.
Fits:
Porsche 987.1 Boxster / Boxster S 2005 - 2008
Porsche 987C.1 Cayman / Cayman S 2005 - 2008
Porsche 997.1 Carrera 2005 - 2008 COUPE / CABRIO
Porsche 996 GT3 / GT3 RS 2004 - 2005
Porsche 997 GT3 2007 - 2009
Porsche 997 GT3 / GT3 RS / GT3 RS 4.0 2010 - 2013
Diagram ref no 1
The secondary air injection pump pumps fresh air into the exhaust system during the engine’s warm-up phase. By introducing this extra air, the system helps accelerate the oxidation of hydrocarbons (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO) before they exit the tailpipe, which reduces emissions and can improve overall combustion efficiency.
A properly functioning AIR pump also ensures the vehicle stays within emissions regulations and helps prevent certain engine codes and check engine light warnings that can occur when the system fails.
The secondary air injection pump is essential to the emissions system. A failing or clogged pump can trigger a check engine light, reduce cold-start efficiency, increase emissions output, and potentially lead to failed emissions tests. Replacing a worn pump with an OE Match quality or genuine unit restores proper emissions control function and helps keep your Porsche running cleanly and legally.
Replace this pump if you notice:
• Persistent check engine or emissions system warnings
• Failed emissions tests
• Reduced fuel combustion efficiency on cold starts
• Noticeable reduction in secondary air pump activity
