Plastic Expansion Rivet for Door Sill Step Plate
This Porsche Genuine OE Expansion Rivet is a factory plastic push-type fastening clip designed for securing the door sill step plate / threshold trim. Commonly referred to as a plastic rivet, expanding rivet, or trim clip, this component is widely used in classic Porsche models for fastening interior and exterior trim panels.
Sold individually, Typically multiple required per vehicle
Fits:
Porsche 911 1965 - 1973
Porsche 914 1970 - 1976
Diagram ref no 29
It replaces earlier reference 99959152640 and is supplied individually.
This is a multi-use trim fastening clip, also used in other interior applications depending on model and configuration.
This expansion rivet is inserted into pre-drilled holes and expands when pushed into place, locking the door sill plate or trim strip securely to the bodywork.
It provides a firm hold while allowing easy installation and removal, making it ideal for trim components that may require periodic servicing or replacement.
Functions & Technical Role
• Trim fastening: Secures door sill step plates and threshold trims
• Expansion locking design: Expands inside mounting holes for secure retention
• Vibration resistance: Prevents movement, rattling, or loosening of trim
• Non-corrosive material: Plastic construction resists rust and environmental damage
• OEM precision: Designed to Porsche specifications for correct fit and grip
Fitment / Position on car
• Fitting position: Interior / body trim
• Location: Door sill step plates (threshold trims) / Rocker panel trim strips / Interior trim panels (various applications)
Trim clips are often overlooked but are critical for maintaining proper fit and finish. Over time, they can:
• Become brittle or break
• Lose tension and fail to hold trim securely
• Be lost during removal or restoration work
A worn or missing rivet can lead to:
• Loose or rattling sill trims
• Poor alignment of interior panels
• Reduced overall finish quality
Replacing with genuine Porsche OE rivets ensures secure trim mounting and preserves the original appearance of the vehicle.

Diagram Ref No 2
Located along the inner door sill area, this lining provides a neat finished surface between the doorway, interior trim and surrounding body structure. It also helps protect the covered sill area from everyday contact, footwear, dirt and minor abrasion as occupants enter and leave the vehicle.
Door sill trim is frequently touched and stepped over, making it particularly susceptible to scratches, scuffs, cracked mounting points and general cosmetic deterioration. Replacing a damaged or missing lining restores the clean factory appearance of the doorway and ensures the trim remains correctly secured.
What This Product Does:
The inner door sill lining covers and finishes the relevant section of the doorway and sill area.
Its primary functions include:
- Providing a finished interior appearance
- Covering the underlying sill and mounting areas
- Helping protect covered surfaces from dirt and minor abrasion
- Providing a neat transition between adjoining interior trim components
- Concealing clips, fixings and bodywork where applicable
- Maintaining the intended factory interior presentation
- Supporting correct alignment of surrounding trim
Although primarily an interior trim component, secure installation is important to prevent movement, rattles and further damage.
Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
Common signs that replacement may be required include:
- Scratches
- Scuffs
- Deep surface marks
- Cracks or splits
- Broken edges
- Chipped sections
- Broken retaining clips or mounting tabs
- Loose trim
- Trim lifting away from the sill
- Uneven gaps
- Rattling or movement
- Warping or distortion
- Fading or discolouration
- Damage following interior removal or repair
- Missing trim sections
Cosmetic marks may not affect function, but broken mounting points or severe distortion can prevent the lining from remaining securely installed.
Why Replacement Matters:
Replacing a damaged driver's side inner door sill lining helps restore the appearance, protection and fit of the doorway trim.
A new lining can help:
- Restore the original interior finish
- Replace cracked or broken trim
- Correct loose or lifting sections
- Restore proper alignment
- Eliminate rattles caused by damaged trim
- Cover the intended sill and mounting areas
- Protect underlying surfaces from everyday contact
- Maintain a clean factory-style interior
For vehicles being restored, detailed or prepared for resale, replacing heavily marked sill trim can make a noticeable improvement to the cabin presentation.
