What Is the 930 Turbo Track Rod Upgrade?
The 930 Turbo track rod upgrade, commonly referred to as the 911 bump steer upgrade is one of the most popular handling improvements for classic air-cooled Porsche 911 models.
Unlike the original steering arrangement, which incorporates a rubber-damped joint designed to isolate vibration, the 930 Turbo track rods use a more rigid ball-joint design. This significantly reduces compliance within the steering linkage, allowing steering inputs to be transferred more directly to the front wheels.
The result is:
- Sharper steering response.
- More direct steering feel.
- Improved steering precision.
- Better feedback through the steering wheel.
- Reduced steering play.
- More accurate cornering.
- Improved high-speed stability.
- Greater driver confidence.
The upgrade became standard equipment on the Porsche 930 Turbo due to its improved steering characteristics and has since become one of the most widely recommended upgrades for naturally aspirated air-cooled 911 models.
For enthusiasts seeking the classic Porsche steering feel with increased precision, the 930 Turbo track rod conversion is widely regarded as an essential modification.
The steering rack is central to the Porsche driving experience, translating every steering wheel input into precise movement of the front wheels. Over decades of use, wear within the steering rack, track rods and ball joints can lead to vague steering, excessive free play, knocking noises and reduced confidence behind the wheel.
Whether you're restoring a classic road car, upgrading a fast-road build or preparing a suspension overhaul, this complete steering kit offers an outstanding combination of renewed reliability and improved steering performance.
