Manufactured to Porsche's original equipment specifications, this suction hose forms part of the fuel tank supply arrangement and is associated with the in-tank fuel filter. It provides a connection through which fuel can be drawn from the tank towards the vehicle's fuel delivery system.
The Porsche 964 relies on a consistent supply of clean fuel to maintain reliable engine starting, smooth operation and dependable performance. The suction hose plays an important role in this process by providing a correctly routed fuel passage within the tank assembly.
Designed specifically for right-hand-drive vehicles, the hose has the appropriate configuration for the applicable fuel tank and fuel pick-up arrangement.
Over time, original fuel hoses may deteriorate due to prolonged fuel exposure, ageing, temperature changes and the effects of modern fuel formulations. Rubber components can harden, crack, swell or lose their original flexibility, potentially affecting their sealing and fuel transfer capabilities.
A damaged, loose or restricted suction hose may interfere with the fuel pump's ability to draw fuel from the tank, potentially contributing to starting difficulties, hesitation, fuel starvation or inconsistent engine operation.
Replacing a worn or deteriorated suction hose with a Genuine Porsche component helps restore the original fuel pick-up arrangement, support reliable fuel delivery and maintain the factory configuration of the fuel tank assembly.
Ideal for fuel tank repairs, fuel system refurbishment, engine running fault investigations and classic Porsche restoration projects, this Genuine Porsche suction hose provides a factory-specified replacement for compatible early 964 models.
What This Product Does:
The fuel tank suction hose is an essential component of the Porsche 964's fuel supply system.
Its primary function is to provide a fuel passage between the relevant in-tank fuel pick-up and filtration components, allowing fuel to be drawn from the tank into the supply system.
When the engine is operating, the fuel pump draws petrol from the tank and delivers it towards the engine's fuel injection system. The suction hose helps maintain a continuous and correctly routed supply path on the inlet side of this arrangement.
Because this is a suction-side component, correct hose condition and connection integrity are particularly important. A damaged hose may allow air to enter the supply path or reduce the amount of fuel available to the pump.
Its main functions include:
- Supporting fuel pick-up: Provides the intended passage for petrol to be drawn from the fuel tank.
- Connecting fuel system components: Forms part of the connection arrangement associated with the in-tank fuel filter.
- Maintaining fuel flow: Helps provide a continuous supply of fuel to the downstream delivery system.
- Supporting reliable starting: Contributes to the fuel supply conditions required for normal engine starting.
- Preventing suction-side air entry: Correctly sealed connections help maintain the integrity of the fuel pick-up circuit.
- Reducing fuel flow restrictions: An undamaged hose provides the intended passage without unwanted collapse or obstruction.
- Supporting fuel pump operation: Helps ensure the pump has access to fuel through the original pick-up arrangement.
- Maintaining correct routing: Preserves the hose positioning specified for early right-hand-drive Porsche 964 vehicles.
- Preserving original fuel system functionality: Maintains the intended connection within the factory fuel tank assembly.
The suction hose does not regulate fuel injection pressure or filter contaminants independently. These functions are performed by other components within the fuel system.
Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
The original Porsche 964 fuel tank suction hose is continually exposed to petrol and the effects of ageing.
As these vehicles are now several decades old, deterioration of original rubber fuel system components is an important consideration during maintenance and restoration.
Common symptoms of a worn or damaged fuel tank suction hose include:
- Difficulty starting the engine: A restricted or compromised fuel pick-up connection may contribute to inadequate fuel delivery.
- Engine hesitation: Interrupted or inconsistent fuel supply may cause hesitation during acceleration.
- Engine stalling: Severe fuel starvation may cause the engine to stop unexpectedly.
- Poor performance under load: A restricted suction passage may limit the fuel available to the pump during increased demand.
- Intermittent running problems: Damaged or loose hose connections may contribute to inconsistent fuel pick-up.
- Fuel starvation at lower tank levels: A damaged pick-up arrangement may become more noticeable when the fuel level is reduced.
- Visible cracking or splitting: Ageing hose material may develop cracks, particularly around bends and connection points.
- Hardened or brittle rubber: Prolonged fuel exposure and ageing may reduce the hose's flexibility.
- Swollen or softened hose material: Chemical deterioration may cause changes in the shape or condition of the hose.
- Loose connections: Deteriorated hose ends or damaged clamps may prevent secure attachment.
- Collapsed or kinked hose: Physical deformation may restrict the flow of fuel.
- Contaminated fuel system components: Deteriorating hose material may release particles into the fuel system.
- Increased fuel pump noise: Restricted fuel supply can contribute to abnormal pump operating conditions, including cavitation or excessive noise.
- Visible deterioration during tank inspection: Internal fuel system servicing may reveal damaged or ageing hose material before obvious driving symptoms develop.
