What This Product Does
The synchroniser ring provides friction within the synchronising mechanism to help bring rotating components to matching speeds before a gear engages. Its role concerns gear synchronisation rather than replacing the separate brake bands, engagement teeth or shifting sleeve.
Functions
- Helps synchronise rotational speeds during first- or second-gear selection.
- Forms part of the gearbox synchroniser assembly.
Technical Details
- Gear application: 1st / 2nd gear.
- Transmission application: four-speed gearbox.
- Supplied product reference: 93030230100.
Symptoms of Fault
- Crunching or grinding during first- or second-gear selection.
- Resistance to engagement or a need to pause between shifts.
- Gear clash when changing down.
These symptoms are not conclusive evidence of ring wear. Clutch operation, linkage condition and gearbox oil can also affect selection.
Why Replacement Matters
A worn friction surface can compromise synchronisation. Renewing the affected ring addresses this wear during a diagnosed gearbox repair. Inspect the associated engagement teeth, brake bands and shifting components at the same time, rather than assuming the ring alone accounts for every shifting problem.
FAQs
Can different gearbox oil repair a worn ring?
Correctly specified oil may influence shift feel, but it cannot renew worn synchroniser surfaces.
Does double-declutching resolve the fault?
It may make engagement easier, but it does not repair the underlying wear.
What should be checked before replacement?
Confirm the gearbox specification and assess the clutch, linkage and related synchroniser components.
