What This Product Does
The seals form a weather barrier where the door glass meets each side of the Targa roof. Replacing hardened, split or compressed seals can help address water entry, wind whistle and movement-related squeaks while protecting the cabin and interior trim from moisture.
Functions
- Seals the left and right roof-to-side-glass interfaces
- Helps prevent rainwater, draughts and dust entering the cabin
- Reduces wind noise caused by gaps around the raised windows
- Supports correct contact between the side glass and roof panel
- Replaces both sides during the same repair
Technical Details
- Set contents: one left seal and one right seal
- Left OE reference: 91453118510
- Right OE reference: 91453118610
- Uses the revised 1974–76 gasket profile with an additional sealing lip
- Original application: Porsche 914 1.8 and 2.0 models from 1974
- The later profile may also be fitted to earlier 1970–73 cars
Symptoms of Fault
- Water entering near the upper corners of the side windows
- Wind whistle or increased cabin noise at speed
- Flattened, torn, cracked or hardened sealing surfaces
- Damp trim, carpets or musty cabin odours
- Squeaks or creaks from the removable roof assembly
- Visible gaps between the roof seal and raised window glass
Why Replacement Matters
Age, sunlight, temperature changes and repeated roof removal can reduce the flexibility of the original seals. Renewing both sides together helps provide consistent contact around the roof panel, limits moisture reaching the interior and supports a more uniform roof and window fit. Window alignment, roof latches and adjoining seals should also be checked during installation.
FAQs
- Why can a new seal make the roof or window harder to close? Fresh rubber may require time to settle. Confirm the roof and window alignment rather than forcing the latch or glass.
- What should be checked if water still enters after fitting? Inspect the roof latches, window adjustment, drainage paths and adjacent front and rear Targa seals.
- How should the seals be installed? Clean the mounting channels and fit each seal without stretching it. Allow the pair to compress before making final alignment adjustments.
