Transmission guide tube & Shift rod repair set, 2WD
A complete OE Match repair kit designed to restore the transmission guide tube and shift rod linkage system, ensuring precise gear selection and improved driving performance in Porsche 964 and 993 Carrera 2 models.
Fits:
Porsche 964 Carrera 2 1989 - 1994
Porsche 993 Carrera 2 1995 - 1998
Diagram ref no 15, 16, 17 and 24.
This kit restores the connection between the gear lever and transmission, eliminating play and ensuring smooth, precise gear changes.
Kit Contents:
1x OE Match 96442401132 Transmission Guide Tube
1x OE Match 92842400501 Gearshift Rod End Joint
1x OE Match 96442405500 Guide Tube Bearing Bracket
1x Genuine Porsche N10155210 Hexagon Nut
At the centre of the kit is the OE Match 96442401132 Transmission Guide Tube, specifically designed for Carrera 2 (rear-wheel-drive) models. This component supports and guides the shift rod through the drivetrain, ensuring stable and accurate movement. Over time, wear in this tube can lead to excessive play and vague gear engagement.
Also included is the OE Match 92842400501 Gearshift Rod End Joint, a critical linkage component that transfers gear selection input from the gear lever to the transmission. A worn joint can significantly affect shifting accuracy and responsiveness.
To maintain proper alignment, the kit includes the OE Match 96442405500 Guide Tube Bearing Bracket, which secures the guide tube and stabilises its position within the drivetrain. This helps minimise movement and ensures consistent operation.
Completing the kit is a genuine Porsche hexagon nut (N10155210), providing the correct fastening hardware for secure installation and proper torque retention.
Together, these components address the most common wear points in the 964 and 993 Carrera 2 shift linkage system, making this kit ideal for maintenance, repair, or full restoration.
Function
• Guides and supports the shift rod within the drivetrain
• Ensures accurate transfer of gear selection input
• Reduces play and looseness in the linkage system
• Maintains correct alignment of guide tube components
• Improves gear engagement precision and driving feel
Wear in the guide tube, rod end joint, and bearing bracket can result in vague shifting, increased play in the gear lever, and reduced driving precision. Over time, this affects both drivability and overall driving enjoyment. Replacing these components as a complete kit ensures all key wear points are addressed together, restoring tight, accurate gear changes and improving overall performance.
When to replace
• Gear changes feel loose or imprecise
• Excessive play in the gear lever
• Difficulty engaging gears smoothly
• During gear linkage or transmission service
• As part of restoration or drivetrain refresh
