Open Ended Wheel Nut – Ball Seat R14 (Chrome Finish)
Sold each
Secure your Porsche wheels with confidence using this OE Match Open Ended Wheel Nut featuring an R14 Ball Seat and durable Chrome Finish. Designed for use on a wide range of modern and classic Porsche models, this high-quality wheel nut is ideal for vehicles fitted with wheel stud conversions, wheel spacers or motorsport-style wheel fastening systems.
Unlike standard closed-end wheel nuts, the open-ended design allows longer wheel studs to pass completely through the nut. This makes them the preferred choice when installing wheel spacers, aftermarket hubs or extended wheel studs, ensuring full thread engagement while maintaining safe and secure wheel retention.
Manufactured to OE Match standards, these wheel nuts provide excellent strength, corrosion resistance and an attractive chrome finish, making them suitable for both road and performance applications.
What Does an Open Ended Wheel Nut Do?
Wheel nuts secure the wheel to the vehicle's hub by clamping it firmly against the mounting face.
The open-ended design allows:
- Use with extended wheel studs
- Installation of wheel spacers
- Compatibility with stud conversion kits
- Maximum thread engagement
- Easy inspection of stud length
- Secure wheel fastening
- Motorsport-style wheel installation
The R14 ball seat profile is designed to match compatible Porsche alloy wheels, ensuring the correct seating angle and load distribution.
Why Upgrade to Open Ended Wheel Nuts?
Open-ended wheel nuts are essential whenever longer wheel studs are fitted.
They are commonly used for:
- Wheel spacer installations
- Wheel stud conversions
- Motorsport applications
- Track day vehicles
- Performance wheel upgrades
- Custom Porsche builds
- Classic Porsche restorations
The chrome finish also enhances the appearance of exposed wheel hardware while offering excellent corrosion resistance.
Why Do Wheel Nuts Need Replacing?
Wheel nuts experience repeated tightening and removal throughout their service life.
Common causes of wear include:
- Thread damage
- Over-tightening
- Corrosion
- Impact gun damage
- Rounded hex faces
- Ball seat wear
- Incorrect installation
Damaged wheel nuts should never be reused, as they may no longer provide the correct clamping force or safe engagement.
Symptoms of Worn Wheel Nuts
Replacement is recommended if you notice:
- Damaged threads
- Rounded hexagon head
- Corrosion
- Cracked chrome finish
- Ball seat wear
- Difficulty achieving correct torque
- Visible
distortion
- Poor engagement with wheel studs
Maintaining good-quality wheel hardware is essential for both safety and long-term reliability.
When Should Wheel Nuts Be Replaced?
Replacement is recommended when:
- Installing wheel stud conversion kits
- Fitting wheel spacers
- Upgrading alloy wheels
- Threads become damaged
- Corrosion develops
- During suspension or hub refurbishment
- Preparing a track or competition car
- Carrying out preventative maintenance
Many Porsche specialists replace wheel nuts whenever extended wheel studs are installed to ensure full compatibility.

Open
Ended Wheel Nut (Black Finish)
Sold each
Complete your wheel installation with this Open Ended Wheel Nut, manufactured with an R14 ball seat and finished in a durable black coating for a subtle motorsport-inspired appearance.
Suitable for various classic and modern Porsche models, this open-ended wheel nut is commonly used with wheel stud conversions, wheel spacers and other applications where additional thread engagement is required. The open-ended design allows longer wheel studs to pass through the nut while maintaining full thread engagement for a secure installation.
Manufactured from high-strength steel and engineered to OE specifications, these wheel nuts provide excellent durability, precise fitment and dependable clamping performance for both road and track use.
What Does an Open Ended Wheel Nut Do?
The wheel nut secures the wheel firmly against the hub by clamping it onto the mounting face. This prevents wheel movement and ensures the wheel remains safely attached under braking, cornering and acceleration.
The open-ended design allows longer
wheel studs to extend through the nut, making it the preferred choice for:
- Wheel spacer installations
- Wheel stud conversion kits
- Motorsport applications
- Custom wheel installations
- Vehicles requiring increased thread engagement
The R14 ball seat matches the seat profile used on many genuine Porsche wheels, ensuring correct load distribution and secure wheel fitment.
Why Do Wheel Nuts Need Replacing?
Wheel nuts are subjected to repeated tightening, high clamping loads and continual exposure to road salt, moisture and brake heat.
Over time they can suffer from:
- Corrosion
- Damaged or worn threads
- Rounded hexagonal faces
- Distorted ball seats
- Cosmetic deterioration
- Damage caused by incorrect tools or over-tightening
Using worn or damaged wheel nuts can prevent correct torque from being achieved and may compromise wheel security.
When Should They Be Replaced?
Replacement is recommended whenever:
- Installing wheel spacers
- Carrying out a wheel stud conversion
- Threads become damaged
- The ball seat shows signs of wear
- Corrosion is present
- The hex has become rounded
- Fitting new wheels or refurbishing existing hardware
- Preparing a vehicle for track use
Replacing ageing wheel hardware is inexpensive preventative maintenance that helps ensure safe and reliable wheel retention.

Why Replace This Part?
Wheel nuts can become corroded, rounded, cross-threaded, worn, or cosmetically damaged through age, repeated wheel removal, incorrect tools, or track and road use. A damaged wheel nut can make wheel removal difficult and may affect correct wheel clamping. Replacing worn or damaged wheel nuts helps maintain secure wheel fitment and a clean finish.
When to Replace This Part
• Wheel nuts are corroded, rounded, worn, or damaged
• A wheel stud conversion has been fitted
• Wheel spacers or extended studs are being used
• Closed wheel nuts do not provide enough thread clearance
• Wheels are being changed or upgraded
• The gun metal finish is required for visual matching
