997 MKII Carrera C2 3.6L 2009-12

Porsche introduced the mid-cycle update for the 997 911 lineup in 2009, known as the 997.2 generation. While the internal chassis code remained the same, significant technological advancements were made. Notably, the water-cooled flat-six engines received direct-injection technology, and the previous five-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission was replaced by a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, while the six-speed manual option remained.

The base Carrera coupe saw its power increased to 339 horsepower and 287 ft lbs of torque, resulting in a 0-60 mph time of 4.5 seconds, a 0.3-second improvement. The top speed also increased to 179 mph. On the exterior, subtle changes were made, including a slightly redesigned front bumper with larger air intakes, LED daytime running lights, and new 18” light-alloy wheels as standard. The rear lights were updated to include full LED lighting, and larger disc brakes were installed, differentiated by tailpipe design.

Inside, a new 6.5” touchscreen infotainment unit, PCM 3.0, was introduced as standard, offering features like navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, and USB ports. The button layout on the center console was revised for a cleaner look, and additional seat options were made available, including 12-way adjustable seats and sport-bucket seats. The 3.6-liter engine in the Carrera and the 3.8-liter engine in the Carrera S were enhanced for improved efficiency and performance, with power outputs increased to 345 hp and 385 hp, respectively.

The introduction of Porsche-Doppelkupplung (PDK) marked a significant advancement, offering a seven-speed gearbox with improved acceleration and fuel efficiency over the previous Tiptronic S automatic transmission. The 911 also received enhancements to its braking system and chassis, maintaining its performance capabilities. With PDK, the Carrera achieved a 0-60 mph time of 4.5 seconds, while adding Sport Chrono Plus reduced it to 4.3 seconds, with a top speed of 177 mph.
