In a nod to its rich racing heritage, Porsche revived the 718 name for its 982-generation Cayman platform, evoking the spirit of the diminutive race car that dominated the Targa Florio races in 1959 and 1960. This move was accompanied by a transition from naturally aspirated flat-6 engines to turbocharged flat-4 2.0ltr engine.
Debuting alongside the 718 Boxster in April 2016, the 718 Cayman retained much of the design language of its predecessor, the 981 Cayman, with notable updates to the rear and front sections, including a distinctive black-trim bar connecting the taillights. Inside, the cabin remained largely unchanged, featuring the new PCM 4.0 infotainment system and optional Sport Chrono package for enhanced driving modes.
Under the hood, the 718 Cayman boasts a 2.0ltr turbocharged boxer 4-cylinder engine delivering 296bhp and a robust 280 ft-lbs of torque, significantly outperforming its predecessor. Mated to a a 6-speed manual gearbox, along with various performance enhancements like PASM Sport Suspension and Sport Chrono package, the 718 Cayman offers exhilarating performance and precise handling for driving enthusiasts.
