Cayman S / GTS 3.4L 981 2013-16

In 2013, Porsche introduced the new 981 generation Cayman, featuring several notable upgrades. The 981 Cayman S retained its 3.4ltr engine but increased its power by 5hp to 325, achieving 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds and up to 30 mpg with PDK and Sport Chrono+. Transmission options included a standard 6-speed manual or an optional 7-speed PDK.

The 981 Cayman maintained its reputation as an excellent daily driver with enhanced performance and usability. It featured a mid-engine layout with a sleek design, offering two trunks and a combined luggage capacity of 425 liters. The new model sat on larger wheels, 19-inch on the Cayman S, with optional 20-inch wheels—paired with improved tyres for better efficiency and performance.

The interior received a major overhaul, aligning more with the Panamera and 991, and drawing inspiration from the Carrera GT. The center console was higher, bringing the shifter closer to the steering wheel. The dashboard was flatter, and the Sport Chrono stopwatch was recessed into the dash. High-quality push buttons were logically arranged, enhancing the cockpit feel. Door panels were modern and elegant, with improved storage solutions.

The instrument cluster featured three round gauges with color LCD displays, providing more information than previous models. For the first time since 1997, Porsche included digital oil pressure and temperature gauges in a sports car other than the 911, addressing prior complaints. Overall, the 981 Cayman offered improved driving performance, a refined interior, and retained the characteristics that made it a benchmark in the sports car segment.
