The Panamera received a significant mid-cycle update for 2014.
The 970.2 Panamera diesel version was unveiled later, in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show, strategically timed for the European market, which was the largest for Panamera diesels. Besides visual updates, there were notable technological advancements.
One of the key updates was the introduction of optional LED headlights, marking a new era for Porsche Panamera's lighting system. These intelligent lights provided enhanced road visibility. The standard version featured bi-xenon headlamps. The revised front and rear bumpers gave the car a more aggressive look, with larger side scoops inspired by the 911 range. A wider rear windscreen was also added to the new tailgate design.
Inside, Porsche installed the PCM (Porsche Communication Management) system for infotainment, supporting Apple CarPlay connectivity, although compatibility with Android phones was limited. The tachometer was centrally positioned in the instrument cluster, with a round TFT display on the right side, which could show navigation and other on-board computer information. Additionally, the Porsche Car Connect app was offered as an option.
The engine received an upgrade with a new water-cooled turbocharger. The 300hp unit was paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox (Tiptronic S) and was available exclusively with rear-wheel drive. The self-locking rear differential enabled the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 kph (0-62 mph) in just 6.0 seconds flat.
