What This Product Does
This strut forms part of the electric tailgate mechanism, assisting rear hatch movement and supporting the lid during operation. It is a powered-system component rather than a conventional, unpowered lid support.
Functions
- Assists operation of the electrically operated rear hatch.
- Supports the rear lid as it moves.
- Replaces a worn or damaged electronic damper within the tailgate assembly.
Technical Details
- Part reference: 958827851A; described in the supplied diagram as a powerlift throttle control element for the electric rear lid.
- Equipment identification: I4E7; diagram application PR:4E7"CN.".
- Diagram instruction: use in pairs. Required vehicle quantity: 2; this does not specify the quantity supplied.
- Production restriction: D >> - MJ 2014, with the following upper chassis limits.
Symptoms of Fault
Reduced lid support, unexpected downward movement, difficulty raising the hatch, or creaks and knocks during operation can warrant inspection. These symptoms alone do not confirm that the electronic strut requires replacement.
Why Replacement Matters
A deteriorated damper can affect rear hatch support and movement. Replacement addresses a confirmed component fault, while checking the associated mounting points and electrical connections helps avoid overlooking another cause. Match the original reference and chassis details before fitting.

The electronic damper strut assists with powered tailgate opening and closing. It supports the weight of the boot lid while helping control movement through the electric tailgate mechanism, allowing the rear hatch to open and close smoothly when the system is operated.
Functions
• Replaces the rear boot lid electronic damper strut
• Supports powered tailgate opening and closing
• Helps hold the rear boot lid safely in the open position
• Restores smooth electric boot lid movement
• Helps prevent weak, slow, uneven, or failed tailgate operation
• Suitable for electronic tailgate system repair
• OE Match replacement for Porsche Cayenne 958 body and boot lid service.
Why Replace This Part?
Electronic boot lid damper struts can weaken or fail due to age, motor wear, internal gas pressure loss, electrical faults, seal wear, temperature changes, and repeated use. A faulty strut may cause the tailgate to open slowly, stop part way, close unevenly, fail to hold open, or stop operating electronically. Replacing the damper strut helps restore reliable powered boot lid operation.
When to Replace This Part
• The electronic boot lid does not open or close correctly
• The tailgate moves slowly, unevenly, or stops part way
• The boot lid will not stay open
• Tailgate operation is noisy, weak, or inconsistent
• The strut is leaking, damaged, bent, or failed
• Electric tailgate fault diagnosis points to the damper strut
• The vehicle is undergoing Porsche Cayenne tailgate system repair.
Where it fits on the car
This damper strut fits at the rear boot lid / tailgate support area on Porsche Cayenne 958 models with electric tailgate operation. It forms part of the powered tailgate opening and support system.
