What This Product Does
The cable provides the mechanical connection used to release the flap covering the fuel filler. Its role concerns access for refuelling, rather than sealing the fuel tank or controlling fuel delivery to the engine. The cap, filler neck and flap hardware perform separate jobs within the surrounding assembly.
Functions
- Transfers movement through the fuel flap release mechanism.
- Allows repair of the cable-operated release connection.
Technical Details
- Brand: OE Match; product reference: 90150431721.
- Internal diagrams describe this component as a lid-release cable, wire pull or fuel filler flap actuator cable.
Symptoms of Fault
Difficulty opening the filler flap is a reason to inspect the release mechanism. This symptom alone does not establish that the cable needs replacement; the associated flap, hinge and release fittings should also be checked.
Why Replacement Matters
Renewing a defective release cable addresses the mechanical connection needed to open the filler flap. Match the replacement to the vehicle details and applicable chassis notes, and assess the surrounding mechanism before fitting. Replacing this cable does not address faults in the filler cap seal or filler neck.

Over time, original rubber sleeves can harden, crack, shrink or split due to age, fuel vapour exposure and environmental wear. A damaged sleeve can allow moisture and debris into the filler neck area, affecting appearance and potentially encouraging corrosion around the fuel filler opening.
Replacing the fuel filler neck rubber sleeve is a simple but important detail during fuel system repairs, body restoration or routine classic Porsche maintenance.
What Does the Fuel Filler Neck Rubber Sleeve Do?
The fuel filler neck sleeve helps:
- Seal the filler neck area
- Protect against water and dirt ingress
- Reduce fuel vapour escape around the filler area
- Support correct filler neck positioning
- Protect surrounding bodywork
- Improve restoration appearance
- Maintain factory-style fitment
Why Do Fuel Filler Neck Sleeves Fail?
Common causes of failure include:
- Age-related rubber hardening
- Cracking or splitting
- Fuel vapour exposure
- Weathering and UV damage
- Shrinkage over time
- Damage during fuel tank or bodywork repairs
- General wear and deterioration
When Should It Be Replaced?
Replacement is recommended when you notice:
Cracked or perished rubber Loose or poor fitment Fuel smell around the filler area Water or dirt entering the filler neck area Visible distortion or shrinkage Restoration or repainting work Fuel tank or filler neck servicingWhy Replacement Matters
A worn sleeve can compromise sealing and allow contaminants into an important body and fuel system area.
Benefits of replacement include:
- Improved sealing
- Better protection from moisture
- Reduced corrosion risk
- Cleaner fuel filler area
- Improved restoration quality
- Correct OE-style appearance
- Long-term fuel system protection
