The seal helps keep the window channel area protected from water, dirt, and road debris while supporting smooth window operation. It’s an essential trim-and-sealing component for keeping the door interior dry and preserving the condition of the window mechanism and door shell.
It wipes and seals the window glass as it moves, helping prevent moisture and grit from dropping into the door. It also improves cabin refinement by reducing drafts and wind noise around the glass-to-door interface.
Function:
• Seals the door window slot at the beltline
• Helps reduce water ingress into the door cavity
• Minimises dirt/debris entering the window channel
• Supports smoother, quieter window movement and a tidy exterior finish.
Old seals commonly harden, shrink, split, or deform, which can allow water and grit into the door - leading to corrosion, rattles, sluggish window operation, and premature wear of regulators/guides. Replacing the seal restores protection and the correct finished look along the top of the door.
When to replace:
• Cracked, hardened, wavy, or missing seal edge
• Water running into the door or damp door cards
• Increased wind noise around the window line
• Scratched glass from trapped grit / poor wiping action
• During door/window restoration or repaint work
