What This Product Does
The gearbox mount connects the transmission assembly to its supporting structure and uses a rubber element to absorb vibration. It also limits excessive gearbox movement, helping to maintain the intended alignment of the transmission and surrounding drivetrain components.
Functions
- Supports the gearbox and transmission assembly
- Helps isolate drivetrain vibration from the body
- Controls transmission movement during acceleration and deceleration
- Supports the alignment of associated drivetrain components
- Reduces movement that may place additional load on brackets and fixings
Technical Details
- Component type: rubber gearbox or transmission mounting
- 955 application: PR code D9J, diagram 307-00, item 3
- 957 applications: PR code D5X at item 4 and PR code D50 at item 5, diagram 307-000
- 958 applications up to model year 2014: PR codes D50, D43 and D1V at item 22; PR code D34 at item 24
- Listed applications include 3.2L V6, 3.6L petrol and 3.0L Diesel Cayenne models
Symptoms of Fault
- Clunking when taking up drive or changing load
- Increased vibration through the cabin
- Excessive movement of the gearbox or drivetrain
- Less precise shifting or changes in transmission feel
- Cracked, compressed or deteriorated rubber around the mounting
- Noise caused by contact between drivetrain and supporting components
Why Replacement Matters
An aged or damaged Porsche Cayenne transmission mount may no longer control movement or isolate vibration effectively. Replacing a worn mount can restore correct gearbox support and prevent unnecessary movement from placing additional stress on nearby brackets, fixings and driveline parts. Other mounts and supporting components should be inspected during the repair, as wear elsewhere can produce similar symptoms.
FAQs
- Can a worn mount feel like a gearbox fault?
Yes. Movement, vibration and clunking from a deteriorated mount can make an otherwise serviceable gearbox feel rough. The drivetrain should be inspected before internal transmission repairs are considered. - Will this mount fit every 955, 957 or 958 Cayenne?
No. Suitability depends on the engine, model year and transmission PR code. Cross-check part number 95537505720 and the vehicle specification. - Should related mounts be inspected?
Yes. Checking the remaining engine and transmission mounts can help identify uneven support or additional deterioration. - Does a new mount repair gear crunching?
Not normally. Gear crunching is more commonly associated with clutch, selector or internal transmission wear, although replacing a failed mount may improve general drivetrain stability.

Common failure modes / deterioration
Rubber degradation (cracking, hardening, tearing)
Over time, the rubber can become brittle, crack, or split from repeated stress cycles, heat, chemical exposure (oil, road salt, etc.). This reduces its damping ability.
Delamination / bond failure
The bonding between the rubber and the metal interfaces can fail, leading to slippage or separation under load.
Excessive deformation / sagging
As the rubber softens or wears, the mount may deform under load, causing misalignment or increased movement under torque.
Fatigue / wear from repeated cycles
Especially under harsh driving conditions (off-road, heavy loads, aggressive acceleration/shifting), the stress cycles on the mount accelerate wear. Some aftermarket writeups claim that the factory rubber design is prone to “premature Drive Shaft Support failure” because of constant stress on the rubber.
Heat / ozone / environmental damage
Exposure to high temperatures, undercarriage heat, moisture, road debris, and ozone accelerates rubber aging.
Load shift or impact damage
If the vehicle strikes a pothole or the differential experiences shock loads, the mount may crack or tear.

The part reference 955 349 337 00 is a rubber mounting / support mount for the front-axle final drive / differential, isolating and supporting the front differential (front drive unit) relative to the chassis. There are 3 of the same on each car, this is a SET OF 3
Its purpose is to absorb and damp vibrations, reduce noise transmitted to the chassis, and accommodate slight relative motion between the drivetrain and the vehicle body

Why these should be replaced / when to suspect failure
- This part is not “optional” — it is essential for maintaining proper alignment, damping, and support of the front differential. But because of its rubber nature and exposure, it is a known wear/failure point. Below are reasons and symptoms for replacement:
- Rubber degradation (cracking, hardening, tearing). Over time, the rubber can become brittle, crack, or split from repeated stress cycles, heat, chemical exposure (oil, road salt, etc.). This reduces its damping ability.
- Delamination / bond failure. The bonding between the rubber and the metal interfaces can fail, leading to slippage or separation under load.
- Excessive deformation / sagging. As the rubber softens or wears, the mount may deform under load, causing misalignment or increased movement under torque.
- Fatigue / wear from repeated cycles.
- Heat / ozone / environmental damage. Exposure to high temperatures, undercarriage heat, moisture, road debris, and ozone accelerates rubber aging.
- Load shift or impact damage. If the vehicle strikes a pothole or the differential experiences shock loads, the mount may crack or tear.
