Symptoms of Fault
Wear in track rods or their joints may cause knocking during turns or over bumps, excessive steering free play, wandering and irregular tyre wear. Similar symptoms can arise from suspension bushes or other steering components, so inspection should establish the cause before replacement.
Why Replacement Matters
Renewing a worn or damaged track rod addresses play within the linkage and supports correct alignment adjustment. Excessive joint movement can also result in an inspection failure. Check neighbouring joints, protective boots and bushes during the repair, then arrange wheel alignment after installation.
FAQs
Is alignment required afterwards?
Yes. Have the wheel alignment checked and adjusted following replacement.
Should both sides be renewed?
Inspect both sides and replace components according to their condition; a second rod is not automatically included.
Can suspension wear feel like a track rod fault?
Yes. Worn bushes and other joints can produce similar looseness or knocking, making diagnosis important.
