The guide tube provides a protected and correctly routed path for the bonnet release cable as it runs between the interior release mechanism and the front bonnet latch. By supporting the cable along its route, it helps maintain smooth cable movement and reduces unnecessary rubbing, bending and contact with surrounding bodywork.
With a length of 1750mm, this OE Match component is designed as a replacement for an ageing, damaged, corroded or missing original guide tube and is particularly suitable for restoration or bonnet release system refurbishment.
What This Product Does:
The bonnet release system uses a mechanical cable to transfer movement from the interior release handle to the front bonnet latch.
The guide tube supports and directs this cable through the vehicle, allowing the inner release cable to move along a controlled path when the bonnet release handle is operated.
Its functions include:
- Guiding the bonnet release cable along the correct route
- Protecting the cable from contact with surrounding bodywork
- Helping reduce friction and unwanted cable movement
- Preventing excessive bending or kinking of the release cable
- Supporting smooth operation of the bonnet release mechanism
- Helping protect the cable from premature wear
- Maintaining the correct factory-style installation
Although the guide tube does not release the bonnet itself, it is an important supporting part of the mechanical release system.
Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
After decades of use, an original guide tube may become damaged, distorted or deteriorated. Possible symptoms include:
It is important to inspect the release cable and bonnet latch at the same time, as a stiff bonnet release can also be caused by a worn cable, poor adjustment or a sticking latch.
Why Replacement Matters:
- The front bonnet release is a simple mechanical system, but dependable operation is particularly important because failure can make access to the luggage compartment and bonnet latch difficult.
- A damaged or collapsed guide tube can create additional friction around the release cable, making the bonnet release handle harder to operate. Increased resistance also places additional load on the cable, handle and latch mechanism and can accelerate cable wear.
- If the release cable is allowed to rub against surrounding metalwork because its guide is damaged or missing, the cable can eventually fray, bind or fail.
- Replacing a deteriorated guide tube helps restore the intended cable routing, promotes smoother bonnet release operation and protects the release cable from unnecessary wear. It is also a worthwhile replacement when carrying out a complete bonnet release cable renewal or restoration.

Also referred to as a bonnet release handle, engine lid release handle or cable pull handle, this component provides the manual grip used to operate the relevant lid release cable.
Depending on the vehicle and installation position, the handle allows the driver to release the front luggage compartment lid, rear engine lid or rear hatch.
The handle forms part of a mechanical release system consisting of a pull cable, cable guide, latch and associated mounting components.
When the handle is pulled, the applied force is transferred through the release cable to the corresponding latch mechanism. This disengages the latch and allows the lid to be opened.
Manufactured to Porsche's original equipment specification, the Genuine Porsche handle is intended to maintain the correct operation and appearance of the original release assembly.
Although relatively small, this component plays an important role in providing convenient access to essential areas of the vehicle.
On classic Porsche 911 models, the front luggage compartment houses components such as the fuel tank, spare wheel and other service-related equipment, while the rear engine lid provides access to the engine compartment.
A reliable release handle is therefore important for routine maintenance, vehicle inspections and mechanical servicing.
Over time, the original handle may deteriorate through repeated use, ageing, mechanical stress or excessive pulling force.
Cracks, broken attachment points or damage around the cable connection may prevent the handle from operating the release mechanism correctly.
A damaged handle may feel loose, become difficult to grip or separate from the cable assembly.
Replacing a worn or broken release handle with a Genuine Porsche component helps restore dependable operation of the corresponding lid release system while preserving the original interior appearance.
Ideal for classic Porsche maintenance, bonnet and engine lid repairs, interior refurbishment and restoration projects, this Genuine Porsche Lid Release Cable Handle provides a factory-specified replacement for compatible applications.
What This Product Does:
The lid release cable handle is the manually operated component of the bonnet, engine lid or rear hatch release mechanism.
Its primary function is to allow the driver to pull the release cable and disengage the corresponding latch.
When the handle is pulled, the movement creates tension in the attached cable.
This tension is transmitted to the latch mechanism, allowing the relevant bonnet or lid to be released.
The handle must remain securely connected to the cable and provide sufficient grip for reliable operation.
Its main functions include:
- Operating the release cable: Transfers pulling force from the handle to the mechanical cable.
- Releasing the front bonnet: Allows access to the front luggage compartment on applicable models.
- Releasing the rear engine lid: Provides access to the engine compartment on applicable models.
- Operating the rear hatch release: Performs the corresponding release function on selected Porsche 968 applications.
- Providing a secure grip: Allows the release mechanism to be operated conveniently.
- Supporting reliable latch operation: Helps the cable receive the movement required to disengage the latch.
- Maintaining original functionality: Preserves the factory-designed mechanical release arrangement.
- Reducing unnecessary cable strain: Provides the intended pulling point when the cable and latch operate freely.
- Supporting routine maintenance: Allows access to the relevant vehicle compartment.
- Preserving interior originality: Maintains the appearance and operation of the original Porsche release control.
Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
The lid release handle is subjected to repeated pulling forces during normal vehicle use.
Ageing, mechanical damage or excessive resistance within the release mechanism may cause the handle to deteriorate.
Common symptoms and signs of a worn or damaged release handle include:
- Cracked handle: Visible cracks may develop around the grip or cable attachment area.
- Broken handle: The handle may fracture completely and become unusable.
- Loose or wobbly operation: A damaged attachment may allow excessive movement.
- Handle separating from the cable: The release handle may no longer remain securely connected.
- Difficulty pulling the handle: The grip may be damaged or difficult to operate.
- Handle slipping during operation: A worn connection may prevent force from being transferred reliably.
- Excessive free movement: The handle may move without operating the release cable.
- Damaged mounting points: Cracked or broken retaining features may affect installation.
- Visible deformation: Excessive pulling force may distort the handle.
- Loose retaining hardware: Damaged or missing fixing components may affect handle security.
- Intermittent lid release: The lid may release inconsistently if the handle-to-cable connection is defective.
- Complete failure to release the lid: A broken handle may prevent normal operation.
- Missing handle: The cable may remain exposed without its intended operating grip.
- Visible ageing: Surface deterioration may affect the handle's appearance or condition.
- Damage during servicing: Incorrect removal or excessive force may damage the original component.
Why Replacement Matters:
Replacing a defective release handle helps maintain reliable access to the vehicle's front luggage compartment, engine bay or rear hatch.
A cracked or loose handle may no longer provide sufficient grip or transfer the pulling force required to operate the release cable.
If the handle fails completely, the corresponding lid may become difficult to open using the normal release mechanism.
This can complicate routine maintenance and make it harder to access components requiring inspection or repair.
Installing a Genuine Porsche replacement Lid Release Cable Handle helps to:
- Restore reliable lid release operation: Replace a broken or worn operating handle.
- Maintain convenient compartment access: Allow the relevant bonnet, engine lid or hatch to be opened normally.
- Provide a secure grip: Restore the intended manual pulling point.
- Maintain correct cable operation: Support effective transfer of force to the release cable.
- Replace damaged attachment points: Renew a handle that no longer connects securely.
- Reduce the risk of complete handle failure: Replace cracked or weakened material before it breaks.
- Improve ease of use: Restore normal operation where the defective handle caused difficulty.
- Support routine maintenance: Maintain access for engine, luggage compartment or related vehicle servicing.
- Preserve original interior appearance: Replace an aged or damaged component with a factory-specified part.
- Support bonnet and latch repairs: Provide a replacement handle during release mechanism refurbishment.
- Maintain classic Porsche originality: Preserve the original control arrangement.
- Support long-term reliability: Restore a sound mechanical connection within the release system.
- Maintain Genuine Porsche quality: Use the corresponding original equipment component.
Replacement is particularly recommended when the handle is cracked, broken, loose, missing or unable to operate the cable reliably.
If the release cable or latch is seized or excessively stiff, those components must also be repaired. Replacing the handle alone will not correct excessive resistance elsewhere in the system.

This is a steel extension developed to extend an impact bumper bonnet to the earlier long hood style. No modification to the impact bumper lock panel is required. The extension is manufactured from steel that is the same thickness as original bonnets, for ease of welding. Includes the reinforcement skin that is fitted from underneath the bonnet.
We also sell the bumper fill panels to cover the void between early bumpers and the later lock panel, and extended latches to make it easier to open the hood.
