A mass airflow sensor is used to determine the mass of air entering an electronically fuel-injected engine. The air mass information is necessary for the engine control unit (ECU) to calculate and deliver the correct fuel mass to the engine. Air changes its density as it expands and contracts with temperature and pressure. In automotive applications, air density varies with the ambient temperature and altitude, and this is an ideal application for a mass sensor.

The 99760210405 is the individual coil module used on the Porsche M96 and M97 M-series engines in many 986/996/987/early 997 cars. Normally should be replaced as a set of six coils (one per cylinder)
Why these coils should be replaced
Age / thermal breakdown: coils are exposed to heat cycles and can develop internal insulation breakdown or hairline cracks in the housing. Over time this causes weak or leaking high voltage and intermittent sparks.
Misfire symptoms: a failing coil will cause single-cylinder misfires (P030x codes), rough idle, reduced power, increased fuel consumption and catalytic converter heating/damage if left. These are the most common reasons owners replace coils.
Carbon tracking / cracking: visible cracks or carbon tracking on the coil boot can provide a leakage path for spark, reducing performance and causing intermittent faults.
Connector / wiring issues: corroded or loose coil connectors can mimic coil failures; inspect connectors when replacing coils.

Common issues reported in practice
One or more cylinders misfire when the engine is hot but behave quite normally when cold (typical of internal coil failure or heat-sensitive cracks). Cracked coil housings on Boxster/996 cars, owners often replace the entire set for reliability. After a spark plug change, misfires appear because weakened coils can fail once higher-voltage plugs are installed; this is a frequently reported pattern. How to diagnose (practical steps)
Read codes: P0300 / P0301–P0306 point to misfires; note which cylinder is affected.Swap test: swap the suspected coil with another cylinder’s coil — if the misfire follows the coil, the coil is bad. (Common, quick field test used by owners.)Measure resistance: check primary and secondary coil resistances at ~20°C and compare to the ranges above.Visual inspection: look for cracks, carbon tracking, oil ingress, or damaged boots/connectors.Oscilloscope / HV probe: for deeper diagnosis a scope or HV probe can show spark energy, but most DIY diagnostics use swap + resistance checks.Related reference numbers

The Plasma Direct is an ignition coil with a built-in high-power amplifier. Plasma Direct Coils produce 4 times more spark energy than stock coils, and generate an ultra-fast multi-spark-discharge of 10 sparks up to highest RPM.
The spark amperage is increased by 100%, allowing the spark to reach many more molecules, which therefore accelerates the ignition and combustion processes. This is extremely important in forced induction applications, but also improves the performance of normally aspirated engines.
The Plasma Direct will increase horsepower and torque throughout the entire RPM range, as well as reducing fuel consumption. Even engines with legendary smoothness will be further refined with the Plasma Direct upgrade. Plasma Direct coils are OBD II compliant.
- 100% secondary current (Spark Amperage) increase.
- 4 times spark energy increase for the initial spark discharge.
- 8% Fuel Saving
- Easy installation.
- Compatible with all OEM components.
- Compatible with OBD-II (On-Board-Diagnostics).

At Design911, we stock a comprehensive range of Porsche engine electrical components, covering everything from classic air-cooled models to the latest high-performance machines. Whether you’re replacing a worn-out part, upgrading for reliability, or preparing for motorsport, we have the electrical parts you need - all shipped worldwide from our UK warehouse.
We supply both genuine Porsche OEM parts and trusted aftermarket alternatives, giving you the choice of factory-correct components or cost-effective upgrades without compromising quality.
Why You Might Need Porsche Engine Electrical Parts
Your Porsche relies on a complex network of
electrical systems to start, run, and perform at its best. You may need
replacement electrical parts if:
- A fault has developed (e.g. failing alternator, dead battery, faulty sensor)
- You’re upgrading to higher-performance components for reliability or track use
- You’re carrying out a rebuild or restoration project and require fresh parts
Common everyday replacements include:
- Alternators – to keep your electrical systems charged and stable
- Starter Motors – for reliable, quick engine starts
- Car Batteries – which typically last around 4 years; we stock high-quality replacements for both modern and classic models
- Battery Accessories – including Porsche battery chargers and maintainers to prolong battery life
For motorsport and safety, we also supply Rennline kill switches and mounts, which cut the engine in an emergency — an essential upgrade for track use.
What Electrical Parts Should I Consider During an Engine Rebuild?
With over 70 years of Porsche history and hundreds of model variations, sourcing the correct engine electrical parts is critical. Even within the same model line, different years can require different parts.
Engine electrical components can include:
- Alternators & Voltage Regulators
- Wiring Harnesses & Looms
- Fuel Pumps
- Temperature & Oil Pressure Sensors
- Speed Sensors
- Relays & Fuses
- Ignition & Control Units
If the part you need is still in production, we can supply it. And if genuine Porsche parts are no longer available, our aftermarket options ensure you still get a reliable solution.
Expert Advice & Support
Choosing the right part is vital. If you’re unsure which Porsche engine electrical component you require, our technical support team can help you identify your exact model and guide you to the correct fitment. Buying the wrong part, even for a Porsche of the same model line but different year, may cause compatibility issues.
