WOSP high torque, lightweight, gear reduction starter motors are manufactured in the UK. Unlike alternatives in the market place these are built using only 100% OE parts and units, therefore can't be rivalled on quality.
In most cases WOSP starters are designed with an indexable 360 degree mounting plate meaning no obstruction should get in your way when installing.
The main advantages over the original starter is the durability along with a weight and space saving. The improved performance means they also reduce loads on the vehicle's battery and electrical system.
Direct replacements to the original item, plug & play / fit & forget.
All units come with instillation instructions and a 12 month warranty.

What Does the Starter Motor Do?
The starter motor is responsible for turning the engine during the starting process. When the ignition key is turned, the starter solenoid engages the 9-tooth pinion gear with the flywheel ring gear before the electric motor rotates the engine until combustion begins.
Its primary functions include:
- Rotating the engine during start-up.
- Engaging the flywheel ring gear via the starter pinion.
- Providing sufficient cranking speed for reliable ignition.
- Ensuring smooth and consistent engine starts.
- Supporting dependable cold and hot starting performance.
- Working in conjunction with the battery, ignition switch and charging system.
Without a correctly functioning starter motor, the engine cannot be cranked or started.
Why Do Starter Motors Fail?
Starter motors are subjected to high electrical loads and
repeated engagement cycles throughout their service life. Common causes of
failure include:
- Wear of the internal brushes.
- Worn bearings or bushings.
- Solenoid failure.
- Burnt or damaged armature windings.
- Worn or damaged 9-tooth pinion gear.
- Electrical corrosion on terminals.
- Heat soak from prolonged engine temperatures.
- High mileage and age-related wear.
As internal components wear, starting performance becomes slower and less reliable.
When Should the Starter Motor Be Replaced?
Replacement is recommended if you experience:
- Slow engine cranking.
- Clicking from the starter solenoid without engine rotation.
- Grinding noises during starting.
- Failure of the pinion gear to engage.
- Intermittent starting problems.
- Excessive current draw.
- Complete starter motor failure.
Many Porsche specialists recommend replacing ageing starter motors during engine or gearbox removal if wear is evident, as access is significantly easier.

Powerlite offer a wide range of high torque gear reduction starter motors. The lightweight units offer increased cranking speeds and considerably more cranking power than original units, whilst drawing less current from the battery. The units are ideal for road competition applications, especially where engines have been tuned and adverse conditions require extra performance from the starter motor. All Powerlite starters are direct replacement for original units and require no modifications to the vehicle on which they are installed. The compact lightweight units are often easier to install than the original unit and units are modified where necessary to aid fitment.
