Diagram Ref No 6
Positioned around the sunroof panel and roof opening, the seal creates a flexible barrier between the removable roof panel and the surrounding bodywork. Its purpose is to help prevent rainwater, wind, dust and road contamination from entering around the sunroof while also helping the panel sit securely and quietly when closed.
Over time, the original rubber seal can harden, flatten, shrink or crack as a result of age, UV exposure, temperature changes and repeated compression. Once the rubber loses its flexibility, it may no longer conform properly to the sunroof panel, allowing water or wind to pass through gaps.
Replacing an ageing seal helps restore weather protection, reduce wind noise and protect the vehicle's headlining, trim and interior from moisture damage.
What This Product Does:
The sunroof seal forms the weather-resistant interface between the lifting roof panel and the surrounding roof aperture.
Its main functions are to:
- Help prevent rainwater entering around the sunroof.
- Reduce wind noise when the roof panel is closed.
- Keep dust, dirt and road debris out of the roof opening.
- Cushion the panel against the surrounding bodywork.
- Help reduce rattling and vibration.
- Support correct seating of the sunroof panel.
- Protect the cabin and headlining from moisture.
- Maintain the original fit and refinement of the roof assembly.
Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
Common symptoms include:
- Water entering around the sunroof.
- Damp headlining.
- Moisture marks around the roof opening.
- Wet seats or interior trim after rain.
- Increased wind noise.
- Whistling at motorway speeds.
- Sunroof rattling when closed.
- Visible gaps around the roof panel.
- Rubber that feels hard or brittle.
- Cracks in the seal.
- Sections of rubber breaking away.
- Flattened sealing surfaces.
- Shrinkage at joints or corners.
- Seal becoming detached from its mounting surface.
- Uneven roof-panel fit.
- Excessive dirt or water collecting around the aperture.
Why Replacement Matters:
Replacing a worn sunroof seal helps restore:
- Weather resistance.
- Reduced water ingress.
- Lower wind noise.
- Proper sunroof-panel support.
- Reduced rattling.
- Improved cabin comfort.
- Protection of interior materials.
- Correct appearance around the roof opening.
For an older Porsche, replacing aged weather seals is also an important part of long-term preservation.

Porsche Sunroof Seals | Design911 Rubber Weatherstrips for Leak Protection & Cabin Comfort
Sunroof seals are essential for maintaining your Porsche’s comfort, weather protection, and quietness. These precision-moulded rubber components create a watertight and airtight seal around the sunroof panel, preventing water, dust, and wind noise from entering the cabin. A properly fitted sunroof seal ensures smooth operation of the sliding or tilting mechanism while protecting interior materials from moisture and UV damage.
At Design911, we offer a premium range of sunroof rubber seals and weatherstrips designed for accuracy, flexibility, and long-term durability. Manufactured from high-quality EPDM rubber, our seals resist heat, UV, and ozone degradation. Perfect for restoration, roof maintenance, or leak repair, these components restore your Porsche’s refined comfort and premium finish.
What Do Sunroof Seals Do?
Sunroof seals form a protective barrier between the sunroof glass or panel and the vehicle body, ensuring total insulation and smooth operation.
Core Functions:
• Prevent water, dust, and wind from entering the cabin.
• Reduce wind noise and vibration at higher speeds.
• Assist proper drainage through integrated channels.
• Protect roof frame and headliner from moisture damage.
• Maintain pressure balance for smooth sunroof movement.
A high-quality sunroof seal keeps your Porsche’s roof system quiet, leak-free, and structurally protected, even under harsh weather conditions.
Why Do Sunroof Seals Fail or Degrade?
Continuous exposure to sunlight, temperature fluctuations, and pressure causes sunroof seals to lose elasticity and sealing capability over time.
Common Causes of Failure Include:
• UV and ozone exposure leading to cracking or hardening.
• Compression fatigue from frequent opening and closing.
• Contamination from dirt, oils, or cleaning products.
• Blocked drainage channels causing water pooling and leaks.
• Age-related shrinkage or misalignment.
When a seal fails, leaks, rattles, and wind noise can develop — leading to interior damage and reduced comfort.
Why Replace or Upgrade Your Porsche Sunroof Seal?
Replacing worn or damaged sunroof seals restores water-tightness, prevents corrosion, and eliminates noise or rattling. Upgraded materials offer better elasticity and UV protection for extended service life.
Key Benefits:
• Restores watertight and airtight roof sealing.
• Eliminates leaks, vibration, and wind noise.
• Prevents interior trim, upholstery, and electronics from moisture damage.
• Made from high-quality, UV- and heat-resistant rubber.
• Available for Porsche 911, 944, 968, Boxster, Cayman, and Panamera models.
• Ideal for restoration, detailing, and sunroof maintenance.
Design911’s Porsche sunroof seals deliver lasting reliability and precision fit — ensuring smooth operation and the perfect blend of comfort and protection.
