The rotor is constructed such that the centre tab is electrically connected to its outer edge so that voltage coming in to the centre post travels through the carbon point to the outer edge of the rotor. As the camshaft rotates, the rotor spins and its outer edge passes each of the internal plug terminals to fire each spark plug.

“转子”头安装在分电器轴的顶部，分电器轴由发动机凸轮轴上的齿轮驱动，从而与其同步。该转子压在分电器盖中心端子上的碳刷上，该碳刷通过顶部连接到点火线圈，在 HEI 系统中直接连接到线圈，或者通过点火系统中的中心端子连接到线圈，并远程连接到线圈。
