差速器几乎在所有情况下都能为两个车轮提供动力。普通的开放式差速器(大多数汽车的标配)在加速时,宝贵的动力会在车轮空转时被浪费掉。这是因为开放式差速器会沿着阻力最小的路径,将动力转移至抓地力较弱的车轮。而差速器的作用恰恰相反。它会感知哪个车轮的抓地力更强,并将动力偏向该车轮。它平稳而持续地执行这一操作,并且不会完全切断另一个车轮的动力。
